Cerebras Systems (NASDAQ: CBRS) shares were trading at USD 113.85 on October 23, 2026, up 4.50%. The AI infrastructure company reported second-quarter results on August 12 showing sharp revenue growth alongside a GAAP net loss driven by one-time compensation costs tied to its recent initial public offering.

Cerebras Systems was incorporated in Delaware in April 2016 and is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California. The company designs and manufactures an AI compute platform built around its proprietary Wafer-Scale Engine, a chip spanning an entire silicon wafer, designed to deliver higher performance than GPUs for inference, generative AI and other AI workloads.

Revenue Growth Accelerates as Cloud Services Scale

Total revenue for the second quarter was $180.1 million, up 74.3% from $103.3 million a year earlier, driven by cloud and other services revenue of $126.0 million, up from $33.0 million, which more than offset a decline in hardware revenue to $54.1 million from $70.3 million. Gross profit was $25.6 million, down from $32.1 million, as cost of cloud and other services revenue rose to $101.4 million from $24.6 million alongside the build-out of the company’s inference cloud infrastructure. Operating expenses rose sharply to $502.8 million from $89.3 million, including research and development expense of $320.2 million, up from $60.8 million, and general and administrative expense of $95.7 million, up from $10.3 million, reflecting in large part higher equity-based compensation following the IPO. Loss from operations was $477.2 million, compared with $57.2 million a year earlier. Net loss was $450.5 million, compared with net income of $309.5 million a year earlier, which had included a large gain within other income, net.

IPO Completed in May 2026

On May 15, 2026, Cerebras completed its initial public offering, issuing and selling 34,500,000 shares of Class A common stock at $185.00 per share, including the underwriters’ full exercise of their option to purchase an additional 4,500,000 shares. The company received net proceeds of approximately $6.2 billion after deducting underwriting discounts, commissions and offering expenses. Immediately prior to the IPO, all outstanding shares of redeemable convertible preferred stock converted into shares of Class B common stock on a one-for-one basis. In connection with the IPO, restricted stock units issued under the company’s 2016 Equity Incentive Plan satisfied their liquidity-based vesting condition, and Cerebras recognized $273.6 million of stock-based compensation expense related to these awards during the three and six months ended June 30, 2026, a non-recurring charge tied specifically to the completion of the offering.

Balance Sheet Strengthened Following the Offering

Following the IPO, Cerebras’ total stockholders’ equity swung to $9.15 billion as of June 30, 2026, from a deficit before the offering, reflecting the conversion of preferred stock and the capital raised. The company said it continues to invest heavily in research and development to extend its Wafer-Scale Engine platform and its cloud-based inference services as it scales its commercial operations as a newly public company.
