  • Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor in Maryland to close after 2025 season

  • 500-acre site to be marketed for redevelopment by CBRE

  • Closure not expected to materially impact 2025 financial results

Six Flags Entertainment Corporation (NYSE:FUN), North America’s largest amusement park operator, has announced that it will permanently close Six Flags America and Hurricane Harbor, located in Bowie, Maryland, at the end of the 2025 operating season. The decision is part of the company’s broader portfolio optimization strategy aimed at monetizing underperforming assets and reallocating capital.

The Maryland-based park, which spans approximately 500 acres, will cease operations after Sunday, November 2, 2025, marking the end of its final season. Six Flags has enlisted the services of CBRE, a leading global real estate firm, to market the site for redevelopment. Potential buyers will be sought for the large tract of land, though no specific future use has been disclosed.

The closure will affect roughly 70 full-time employees. Six Flags has committed to providing severance packages and other eligible benefits to impacted associates, although details remain limited at this time.

Despite the emotional and economic impact of shuttering a regional entertainment hub, the company indicated that the decision will not materially affect its financial results for 2025

The move aligns with Six Flags’ current approach of focusing on high-performing parks and strategic asset management.
