Dividend Program and Shareholder Returns
IBP's board approved a $0.39 per share quarterly dividend, payable September 30 to shareholders of record September 15, representing more than a 5% increase from the prior-year third-quarter payment and the company's third consecutive quarter at this rate in 2026. The company repurchased approximately 365,000 shares of common stock for $76.2 million during the quarter, with $398 million available under its repurchase program, which expires March 1, 2027. Over the five years from 2021 to 2025, the company allocated $1.35 billion of capital: 25% to acquisitions, 34% to share repurchases and 41% to dividends, illustrating that the regular dividend is the smallest of three roughly comparable capital-return channels rather than the primary one.
About the Company
Installed Building Products is one of the largest insulation and complementary building-product installers in the United States, providing insulation, waterproofing, fire-stopping, garage doors and other installation services to residential, commercial and multifamily construction customers.
Financial Performance Behind the Payout
IBP reported second-quarter net revenue of $777.8 million, up 2.3% from $760.3 million a year earlier, a record for the quarter. Net income was $64.9 million, or $2.43 diluted EPS, compared with $69.0 million and $2.52 a year earlier. Adjusted net income was $77.8 million, or $2.91 adjusted diluted EPS. Gross Margin was 33.3%, down from 34.2%. Adjusted EBITDA was $130.9 million, a 16.9% margin, down from 17.6% a year earlier. Installation segment revenue decreased 0.7% to $710.7 million, while Other revenue, which includes IBP's Manufacturing and distribution operations, increased 50.4% to $67.1 million.
Residential Softness Against Commercial Strength
Residential same-branch sales within the Installation segment declined 6.1% in the quarter, while commercial same-branch sales within the Installation segment increased 10.4%, which the company said contributed to a 14.1% overall increase in commercial sales. Acquisitions completed during the second quarter and in July added approximately $30 million of annual revenue. Six-month net income was $99.7 million, or $3.71 diluted EPS, down from $114.4 million and $4.15 a year earlier, with the company citing margin pressure and higher interest expense following a January 2026 issuance of $500.0 million of 5.625% Senior Notes due 2034.
Outlook
CFO Miller's willingness to raise leverage to 3.0x for the right deal, against a current 1.34x ratio, signals a platform Acquisition as the primary swing Factor ahead. The gap between declining residential and growing commercial same-branch sales makes the commercial growth pace the more informative metric than the blended figure.
