Fluence Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ:FLNC)'s fiscal third quarter combined higher Revenue and record order intake with a swing to a net loss, as production delays at new contract Manufacturing facilities weighed on results. Chief Financial Officer Ahmed Pasha said the revenue affected by the delays remains in Backlog and is expected to be recognized in fiscal 2027.
FLNC is a global provider of energy storage products, operational services and asset optimization software. The company ended the quarter with a backlog of $6.4 billion, representing 14% growth over the prior quarter and more than 30% growth since the third quarter of fiscal 2025.
The company said it secured approximately $850.0 million of Data Center Business through July, including its first large behind-the-meter order signed during the quarter and approximately $550.0 million of awards from a hyperscaler customer in July 2026.
Third fiscal quarter 2026 compared with the prior-year quarter
Revenue was approximately $649.8 million, against approximately $602.5 million, which the company attributed primarily to higher volumes of energy storage solution fulfillments. GAAP Gross Profit Margin was approximately 5.1%, against approximately 14.8%, and adjusted gross profit margin was approximately 5.9%, against approximately 15.4%, which the company attributed to the revenue delays, initial costs of deploying new product platforms, and a recognized upfront cost associated with a planned long-term international battery cell Supply agreement.
Net loss was $44.3 million, against net income of $6.9 million a year earlier. For the nine months ended June 30, 2026, revenue was $1.59 billion, against $1.22 billion, and net loss was $136.1 million, against $92.1 million.
Cash and cash equivalents were $339.3 million at June 30, 2026, against $690.8 million at September 30, 2025.
Management outlook and stated risks
Management said it revised its fiscal year 2026 guidance to reflect the reduced revenue outlook, while it kept its annual Recurring Revenue target of approximately $180.0 million by the end of fiscal year 2026 unchanged. The company said $2.2 billion of its current backlog is scheduled for conversion to revenue in fiscal 2027.
Management said it ended the quarter with strong liquidity. It listed risks including production execution at its contract manufacturing facilities and the timing of large data center and Utility orders converting from pipeline to backlog.
Final Analysis
Management has tied its near-term plans to converting its expanded data center pipeline, which it said reached 16 gigawatt hours at quarter-end, into further orders, following the hyperscaler awards signed in July 2026. The company said its total pipeline stood at $33.1 billion at quarter-end.
