Key Highlights
- US spot bitcoin ETFs gained USD 29.3 million net on Oct 2, versus USD 102.7 million on Oct 1 and an outflow of USD 148.7 million on Sept 30.
- Ether ETFs lost USD 17.3 million after losing USD 55.4 million the prior day, a two-day outflow of USD 72.7 million (our calculation).
- Bitcoin ETF net assets stand near USD 109.3 billion with cumulative inflows near USD 57.6 billion, about 52.7% of assets (our calculation).
- The cooling follows the strongest weekly inflow of 2026 in late September, with the tracked group netting USD 13.4 million on Oct 2.
A bitcoin flow roller coaster
The three most recent sessions show how quickly sentiment swung. Bitcoin funds saw an outflow of USD 148.7 million on Sept 30, an inflow of USD 102.7 million on Oct 1, and USD 29.3 million on Oct 2. Our calculation puts the three-day net at an outflow of USD 16.7 million, essentially flat. Friday's inflow was about 71.5% smaller than Thursday's. Large vehicles such as iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (NASDAQ:IBIT) and Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (CBOE:FBTC) dominate these totals, though the data given here are aggregates and do not split flows by fund. Against roughly USD 109.3 billion of net assets, Friday's inflow equals about 0.03% (our calculation).
Ether and altcoin products diverge
Ether funds, including iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (NASDAQ:ETHA), lost USD 17.3 million on Oct 2 after USD 55.4 million the day before, so demand for ether remains weaker than for bitcoin. XRP funds saw a USD 3.3 million outflow, while Solana ETFs added USD 1.3 million and Hyperliquid HYPE ETFs USD 3.4 million. Summing the five categories gives the reported tracked-group net of USD 13.4 million (our calculation: 29.3 less 17.3 less 3.3 plus 1.3 plus 3.4). The mix shows the inflow was almost entirely bitcoin, with newer products contributing small amounts.
What drives the next move
Flows tend to follow price, rates and macro data. The late-September run of the strongest weekly inflow of 2026 coincided with bitcoin reaching an eight-month high above 85,000, and cooling now matches a market stuck below 87,000 after a weak jobs report. Cumulative inflows near USD 57.6 billion mean ownership is large, so a few days of outflows do not change the picture, but sustained redemptions would. Watch daily prints for iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (NASDAQ:IBIT) and peers, plus Federal Reserve expectations. Past flows do not predict future flows, and iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (NASDAQ:IBIT) data can change quickly.
Where Things Stand
Is the late-September surge fading? Partly: a USD 29.3 million bitcoin inflow on Oct 2 is far below Thursday's USD 102.7 million, and Ether funds are in a two-day outflow, but the three-day bitcoin net is only about USD 16.7 million negative. That points to cooling rather than reversal. Investors tracking iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (NASDAQ:IBIT), Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (CBOE:FBTC) and iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (NASDAQ:ETHA) should expect noisy flows while rates and jobs data stay in focus. This is not investment advice.
