Arch Capital Group (NASDAQ:ACGL) edged up on Friday, October 30, 2026, after agreeing to acquire Premier Dealer Services. The deal is expected to close by the end of 2026, according to market data. Financial terms were not reported.
Arch Capital is a Bermuda-based provider of insurance, Reinsurance and Mortgage insurance, operating across specialty lines worldwide. Acquisitions are one way insurers expand into new product areas and distribution channels.
The modest gain was notable because financial stocks as a group fell on Friday. Financials were among the five S&P 500 sectors that finished lower, alongside technology, industrials, communication services and consumer discretionary.
A rough session for the market
The broader market posted its worst day since June. The S&P 500 fell 140.32 points to 7,580.07. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 572.25 points to 51,770.31, and the Nasdaq Composite tumbled 747.73 points to 25,437.00, its worst session since June 5. The Russell 2000 dropped 47.37 points to 2,811.84.
The selloff began in semiconductors. Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) issued a fourth-quarter Revenue forecast of $15 billion to $16 billion, well short of the roughly $17.3 billion analysts had expected, and warned of cash burn this year. That set off a slide across chip stocks, pulling the Philadelphia Semiconductor index down to 10,688.80.
Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN)'s results deepened the gloom. The company reported trailing 12-month free Cash Flow of negative $42.4 billion and said capital spending would rise again next year. Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) extended its losses after a record drop on Thursday. A trading specialist said: "A lot of them kind of got ahead of themselves. It's all Earnings based and right now, they're not producing,"
Rates, risk and a reported hack
Interest rates were also in focus, a theme that matters for insurers because they invest premiums in bonds. The Federal Reserve left its benchmark rate range unchanged on Wednesday in a 10-2 vote, with Governor Lisa Cook and Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack dissenting in favor of a hike. Markets now expect an increase in December. On Friday, St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem said, "I judge that additional firming of Monetary Policy will be necessary, and soon."
Treasury yields eased on Friday, while Credit spreads widened slightly, according to ICE BofA data.
Elsewhere, Binance was reportedly hacked for about $6.3 billion, which would be the largest crypto heist on record, and crypto-linked stocks fell sharply. West Texas Intermediate crude rose $2.12 to $104.12 a barrel amid tensions near the Strait of Hormuz, and gold dropped to a 52-week low.
Money flowed into energy, consumer staples, health care and utilities. Within financials, Global Payments (NYSE:GPN) and Cboe (CBOE:CBOE) Global Markets posted strong gains on company-specific news, while many other names slipped.
What to watch
Investors will look for more detail on the Premier Dealer Services acquisition, including how it fits Arch Capital's existing Business and what it adds to earnings once completed. The deal is expected to close by the end of 2026.
The broader calendar is busy. Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) reports on Monday, November 2, the midterm elections take place on Tuesday, November 3, and the October jobs report is due on Friday, November 6. That data will shape expectations for the Fed's December decision, which in turn affects the Investment income insurers earn on their portfolios.
