Blackstone (NYSE:BX) was one of the very few bright spots on Wall Street on Thursday, 22 October 2026, closing up 8.38% at $118.75 on a day when most of the market moved the other way. The S&P 500 fell about 1.2% as a risk-off mood, driven by a technology-led sell-off, dominated trading and Treasury yields dropped.
A Beat on Distributable Earnings
Blackstone's third-quarter report beat on distributable earnings and showed strong fundraising. Distributable earnings came in at $1.32 per share against roughly $1.26 expected, and inflows totaled $63.3 billion. Total assets under management reached a record $1.37 trillion, and fee-related earnings rose 6%.
Where the Quarter Fell Short
Revenue and realizations were weaker than the headline reaction might suggest. GAAP revenue of $3.06 billion missed estimates, and private equity realizations were down 49%. Management guided to a significant fourth-quarter step-up in realizations and a return to double-digit base fee growth in 2027, which appears to be what investors focused on rather than the softer revenue and realizations figures.
Management's AI Infrastructure Comments
Chairman and chief executive Stephen Schwarzman also stressed AI infrastructure demand and tight supply on the call, a theme that has featured prominently in how alternative-asset managers are framing their growth pipelines. Not every analyst was fully won over by the quarter: Goldman Sachs held a Neutral rating with a $128 price target, citing real estate headwinds within Blackstone's portfolio.
A Clear Divergence From the Market
Shares surged 8.4% to close at $118.75, well ahead of the S&P 500, which fell about 1.2% as technology shares sold off and Treasury yields dropped. The stock was slightly lower in after-hours trading, a modest pullback that did little to dent the scale of the session's gain.
