SHFS Penny Stock Slides With No Fresh Announcement in View
SHF Holdings (NASDAQ:SHFS) shares are trading down 14.87% today at $0.0664, placing the stock firmly in penny stock territory. A review of company releases and filings did not identify a new announcement that explains the decline.
The company operates as Safe Harbor, a Fintech platform that serves the regulated cannabis and hemp industries with banking, lending, payments and Business services. It is not a bank; banking services are delivered through partner banks.
The company says it has helped process more than $36 billion in cannabis-related deposits across 41 states and territories since inception. Its revenue comes largely from account fees, Loan program income and Investment income on a portion of partner-held deposits.
Deposits Reach Highest Quarter-End Level Since April 2024
The most recent company update came on October 6, when Safe Harbor released preliminary third-quarter deposit figures. Trailing 14-day average client deposits were about $119.3 million at September 30, up 7.4% from roughly $111.1 million a year earlier.
The balance was about 9.6% above the June 30 level of roughly $108.9 million, and about 25% above the May 2025 low. The company estimated that a 25 basis point Federal Reserve rate increase in September would add about $150,000 in annualized investment income. The figures are preliminary and unaudited, and the company noted that deposits do not move revenue proportionally.
Management said the deposit trend reflects the strategy it has put in place. Deposits sit on partner bank balance sheets rather than Safe Harbor's own.
Second-Quarter Results Show Wider Net Loss on Modest Revenue Growth
For the second quarter, reported August 10, revenue was $1,934,740, up 4.8% from $1,845,334 a year earlier. Net loss widened to $1.51 million from $0.93 million, and net loss attributable to common stockholders was $2.49 million, or $0.36 per share, including a $981,146 non-cash deemed Dividend tied to induced Series B conversions.
Operating expenses rose 5.1% to $2.96 million. Loan program income climbed 50.7% to about $0.8 million, while account fee income fell 18.4%. Cash and equivalents were $5,729,576 and stockholders' Equity was $6,100,967 at June 30.
The temporary Series B conversion price reduction ended July 31, with holders converting 3,198 Series B shares into 4,920,008 common shares during the window. Share count changes of that kind are relevant to per-share trading, although no link to today's move was identified.
Third-Quarter Report and Capital Structure Remain the Items to Follow
SHFS is moving sharply without a disclosed trigger, so the next scheduled data point is the full third-quarter report, for which the company has not yet announced a date. That release will show whether the deposit gains flowed through to revenue and narrowed the net loss.
Investors tracking the stock are likely to follow the company's cash balance, preferred stock conversions and the product rollouts launched this year, including its pooled employer retirement plan and its institutional infrastructure service.
The company's net loss and per-share figures are also shaped by preferred stock conversions, so changes in share count are a recurring Factor in how results are reported.
