Global Water Resources, Inc. (NASDAQ: GWRS), a water resource management company focused on consolidation and advanced utility operations, has finalized its acquisition of seven water systems from Tucson Water, the City of Tucson’s municipal water utility. The acquired assets, valued at approximately USD7.7 million, are expected to generate around USD1.5 million in annual revenue.
The newly acquired systems serve about 2,200 connections and are located near Global Water’s existing operations in Pima County. These systems will be integrated into the company’s platform using its established Total Water Management model, which emphasizes operational efficiency, water reuse, and conservation.
With this acquisition, Global Water’s total customer base in Pima County increases to approximately 7,200, a significant jump from the 5,000 customers added through prior acquisitions in the region over the past five years. According to Chief Operating Officer Chris Krygier, the proximity of the new assets to existing hubs supports a streamlined integration process and enhances service reliability.
The company also announced plans to modernize the acquired systems through its automated meter infrastructure (AMI) program. This includes the installation of smart meters capable of wireless usage tracking, consistent with the technology currently deployed for more than 95 percent of Global Water’s connections. These upgrades are part of a broader capital improvement initiative aimed at boosting water quality, improving efficiency, and supporting conservation efforts.
Global Water has adopted Tucson Water’s existing rate structures for the acquired systems, including a scheduled five percent increase set for July 2026. The company is working on a comprehensive rate case strategy, expected to be announced next year, to introduce conservation-oriented pricing models that align with infrastructure investments and sustainability goals.
Global Water Resources now owns and operates 39 utility systems in Arizona, offering integrated water, wastewater, and recycled water services, primarily in the Phoenix and Tucson metropolitan areas. Its Total Water Management strategy, which supports long-term water security in growing, arid regions, has been nationally recognized for innovation in conservation and asset management.
