Webull (NASDAQ:BULL) announced the formal launch of its Model Context Protocol server on Thursday, a system that allows artificial intelligence agents to connect directly to Webull's trading infrastructure and execute investor instructions delivered in plain language.
The MCP server has been operational since April, with active traders quietly using the technology over the prior two months. Thursday's announcement marks the official public launch for all U.S. clients. An international rollout across additional markets is planned for the near future.
The launch removes the programming barrier that has historically limited access to Webull's OpenAPI to developers and quantitatively oriented users. Through the MCP server, any retail investor can now use conversational AI instructions to query live market data, view account balances and portfolio positions, and place, modify, and cancel orders, as well as access order history and transaction details, without writing a single line of code.
The Model Context Protocol is a standard framework for connecting AI systems, including large language models, directly into software environments and financial tools. The launch positions Webull as one of the first major retail brokerages to deploy MCP infrastructure for direct trade execution through AI agents, as competition among platforms to build AI-native trading interfaces intensifies.
Other trading platforms have been moving in the same direction. Competitors including TradeStation and Interactive Brokers have been expanding AI-driven functionality across their platforms, while broader retail trading market share competition continues to drive technology differentiation.
Webull noted that the MCP server provides market and account information for reference purposes and that all trade execution remains the responsibility of the individual user.
The company's MCP integration is built on top of Anthropic's Model Context Protocol framework, which has emerged as a standardised method for connecting AI systems into software environments and financial infrastructure. The launch reflects a broader industry shift in which the next competitive battleground for retail brokerages may be the quality of their AI trading interface rather than traditional metrics such as commission structure or charting tools.
