Park National (NYSEAMERICAN:PRK): regular dividend plus a USD 1.30 special
Park National is an Ohio bank holding company. Third-quarter net income was USD 56.9 million, which included USD 7.0 million of merger-related expenses, or USD 5.5 million after tax, tied to First Citizens Bancshares. GAAP diluted EPS was USD 3.13 against USD 2.92, and the adjusted figure was USD 3.37 against USD 2.87. Net interest income was USD 140.7 million and the margin was 4.84%. Other income was USD 36.6 million, up 19.8%. The efficiency ratio was 60.25% against 55.85%, but the adjusted ratio was 56.39% against 56.18%, so the cost increase is largely merger related. Park's results also include a full quarter of the acquired bank, which lifted loans, deposits and interest income together. Credit improved: Park recorded a credit loss recovery of USD 0.964 million against a USD 4.0 million provision a year earlier, and the nonperforming loan ratio fell to 0.92% from 1.13%. Net charge-offs were USD 2.8 million, or 0.11% of average loans annualized.
City Holding (NASDAQ:CHCO): a 15% dividend increase
City Holding, a West Virginia bank holding company, earned USD 34.6 million in the third quarter, against USD 33.3 million in the second quarter and USD 35.2 million a year earlier. Diluted EPS of USD 2.43 was a record, and nine-month EPS was USD 6.98 against USD 6.75. Net interest margin of 4.04% was up from 3.97% in the second quarter and flat with a year earlier, helped by higher loan yields, higher average loan balances and a higher investment yield. Loans reached USD 4.55 billion, up USD 48.4 million, with commercial and industrial loans up 4.4%. Period-end deposits were USD 5.36 billion, and noninterest-bearing balances drove the increase in average deposits. Nonperforming assets were stable at USD 10.9 million, past-due loans were USD 8.3 million, or 0.18% of loans, and the provision was a USD 0.1 million recovery against a USD 0.4 million provision in the second quarter. The company cited a commercial real estate loan upgrade and lower historical loss rates, partly offset by qualitative adjustments and one commercial loan downgrade.
Lakeland Financial (NASDAQ:LKFN): a 4% increase and a buyback
Lakeland Financial, the Indiana holding company for Lake City Bank, earned USD 28.9 million, up 9% from a year earlier and USD 0.4 million from the second quarter. Diluted EPS of USD 1.14 was up 11%. For nine months, net income was USD 83.8 million, up 14%, and EPS was USD 3.31, up 16%. Total revenue was USD 73.0 million, up 6%. Net interest income of USD 60.7 million was up 8% year over year and 4% from the second quarter. Core deposits were USD 6.05 billion, up USD 204.3 million, or 3%, and the efficiency ratio improved to 49.5% from 50.7%. Year-to-date results are running ahead of the third quarter pace. The provision for credit losses was USD 1.2 million against USD 2.0 million a year earlier. Net charge-offs were USD 3.0 million, including a USD 2.8 million partial charge-off on a previously reserved nonperforming credit. Nonperforming loans were 0.32% of loans, improved from 0.36%, but watch list loans rose to 3.56% of loans from 3.00% a year earlier.
Northwest Bancshares (NASDAQ:NWBI): a covered USD 0.60 distribution
Northwest Bancshares, a Pennsylvania-based bank, earned USD 50.7 million, or USD 0.34 per diluted share, against USD 3 million, or USD 0.02, a year earlier, when it booked a USD 20.6 million day-one reserve for the Penns Woods acquisition. Adjusted EPS was USD 0.35 against USD 0.29 a year earlier and USD 0.37 in the second quarter. Average loans were USD 13.30 billion, up 5.8%, led by commercial and industrial loans up 31%, and average deposits were USD 14.14 billion, up 6.3%. Noninterest income was USD 35.9 million, up 11.6%. Return on equity was 10.42% and return on assets was 1.18%. Net interest income rose USD 2 million, or 1.4%, from the second quarter, and the efficiency ratio was 57.8% on an adjusted basis. The tax-equivalent margin of 3.70% was up from 3.65% a year earlier but down from 3.75% in the second quarter, so sequentially it slipped. CEO Louis Torchio credited record total revenue and net interest income, strong C&I growth, low deposit costs and expense discipline, and pointed to the opening of the first two Columbus financial centers.
Alliance Resource Partners (NASDAQ:ARLP): a 128th consecutive dividend
Alliance sells thermal coal from the Illinois Basin and Appalachia and owns oil and gas mineral royalties. Third-quarter tons sold were 9.348 million, up 7.4%, with the Illinois Basin at 7.033 million tons at USD 51.16 a ton and Appalachia at 2.315 million tons at USD 62.35. The average price fell 8.3%, so higher volume and lower costs drove the profit gain: coal segment adjusted EBITDA rose 18.6% to USD 186.8 million. Royalty segment adjusted EBITDA rose 61.4% to USD 43.6 million, helped by the AllDale III and IV acquisition that closed on July 1, 2026. Consensus EPS was USD 0.82 in published market data. CEO Joseph Craft III credited a strong shipping quarter, the return of the Hamilton mine to longwall production, and solid results at River View and Tunnel Ridge. Alliance Resource Partners (NASDAQ:ARLP) is essentially fully committed for 2026 at the guidance midpoint and expects 2027 results to improve on 2026. Export volumes are a growing share of sales, and the royalty business adds exposure to natural gas.
Where Things Stand
The answer is that Park National (NYSEAMERICAN:PRK) offers the largest one-time payment with its USD 1.30 special. City Holding (NASDAQ:CHCO) has the biggest increase at 15%. Alliance Resource Partners (NASDAQ:ARLP) has the highest distribution coverage disclosed at 1.76 times. Lakeland Financial (NASDAQ:LKFN) raised its payout 4%. Northwest Bancshares (NASDAQ:NWBI) extended a 128-quarter streak. Special dividends do not repeat, and every payout is set by the board or general partner and is not guaranteed. Earnings quality matters more than yield. This is not investment advice.
