Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM): Oil Rally Into Results

The monthly gain follows a run of supply shocks. On October 8, 2026, a tanker attack in the Persian Gulf disrupted Strait of Hormuz traffic and hurricanes shut in Gulf of Mexico output, pushing Brent above USD 104. Attacks on a Saudi airport on October 12 and Houthi strikes across Saudi Arabia on October 14, including Saudi Aramco's headquarters, followed. Brent settled at USD 113.88 on October 27 after a 1.67% fall, in published market data. On October 16, Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM) published its third-quarter earnings considerations: lower oil prices cut upstream earnings by about USD 1.3 billion versus the second quarter, while higher refining margins added about USD 4.5 billion in energy products and USD 0.5 billion in specialty products. The company stated that these considerations are not an earnings forecast. Second-quarter earnings excluding special items were USD 14.7 billion, so the net effect of about USD 3.7 billion from the three items (simple arithmetic on published figures) points to a stronger quarter driven by refining, not crude.

Chevron (NYSE:CVX): Sector Rally Into Results

Chevron (NYSE:CVX) rose in step with oil. On October 8, 2026, a tanker attack in the Persian Gulf disrupted Strait of Hormuz traffic and hurricanes shut in Gulf of Mexico output, with Brent rising above USD 104. Attacks on a Saudi airport on October 12 and Houthi strikes across Saudi Arabia on October 14 followed, including Saudi Aramco's headquarters. Brent settled at USD 113.88 on October 27 after a 1.67% fall, in published market data. Commentator Jim Cramer said on October 15 that Exxon was good and Chevron was better. That is an opinion and not a company disclosure, and the monthly gain mostly reflects the commodity. Chevron completed its acquisition of Hess, valued at about USD 60 billion, in July 2025. For the third quarter of 2025 it reported record production of 4.1 million barrels of oil equivalent a day, up 21% year over year, and shareholder returns of USD 6 billion in the quarter, including USD 2.6 billion of buybacks.

Linde (NASDAQ:LIN): Run Into Linde Results

Linde (NASDAQ:LIN) has gained 8.56% over the month into its third-quarter report, but no company announcement in October was found that explains the move. Over three months the shares are down 0.60% and over six months up only 0.80%, so the recent gain is a recovery within a range, not a breakout. Results are due before 6:00 a.m. ET on October 29, 2026, with a conference call at 9:00 a.m. ET open to the public in listen-only mode. Published market data as of October 28 shows the shares at USD 507.37 and up 2.03% over the latest week. This is a preview, so results are not described here. In the second quarter, reported on July 31, 2026, sales were USD 9.3 billion, up 9%, with underlying sales up 4%, and adjusted EPS was USD 4.50, up 10%. Full-year adjusted EPS guidance of USD 17.70 to USD 17.90 implies growth of 8% to 9%, and the third-quarter range of USD 4.45 to USD 4.55 implies 6% to 8%.

Mastercard (NYSE:MA): Run Into Mastercard Results

Mastercard (NYSE:MA) reached near-record levels in October 2026, with a last close of USD 623.49 on October 23 and a gain of 11.54% over the month as of October 25 in published market data. By October 28 the shares were at USD 613.33, down 1.14% over the week, which followed Visa's report and a dip after hours on October 27. No Mastercard-specific press release in October was found, so the monthly gain reflects the payments group rallying into earnings. Consensus is about USD 5.15 of EPS on USD 9.64 billion of revenue, up 17.6% and 12.0% respectively from a year earlier. Investors therefore enter the report with high expectations. In the second quarter, value-added services grew 20%, down from 25% a year earlier, and cross-border volume rose 12%, down from 15%, although management said July trends were relatively stable and strong. Operating margin was 61.1%, up from 59.9%. Management guided operating expense growth to the low double digits and a non-GAAP tax rate of 20% to 21%.

AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV): Healthcare Rally Into Results

AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV) rose 8.97% over the month, but no company press release in October explains it. On October 20, 2026, AbbVie rose in morning trading alongside Eli Lilly, Amgen, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson as the S&P 500 Healthcare Index reportedly hit a new high. On October 5, the shares were near USD 265.93, with a 50-day average of USD 257.87 and a 200-day average of USD 234.68, so the stock has risen about 8% since then, simple arithmetic on two published prices. The move therefore reflects sector momentum and steady execution. A rise of this size without company news often fades if the sector rotates, so the October 30 report matters more than usual. In the second quarter, reported on July 31, 2026, EPS of USD 3.65 compared with USD 2.97 a year earlier, and revenue of USD 16.99 billion rose 10.2%. Analysts forecast about USD 14.05 of EPS for the full year.

Where Things Stand

The answer is that these five report between October 29 and October 30, 2026 after monthly gains of 8.31% to 11.70%, and every item here is a preview, not a result. Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM) depends on oil and refining margins. Chevron (NYSE:CVX) faces the same test. Linde (NASDAQ:LIN) is judged against full-year guidance of USD 17.70 to USD 17.90. Mastercard (NYSE:MA) depends on cross-border volume. AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV) depends on guidance.
