BankUnited (NYSE:BKU) reported net income of USD 72.2 million on October 21, 2026, against USD 71.9 million a year earlier and USD 70.7 million in the second quarter. Excluding the sale of about USD 1.0 billion of lower-yielding securities, which produced a USD 2.3 million net loss, EPS was USD 1.03 against USD 0.94. Net interest margin of 3.16% was 16 basis points above the year-ago level and 10 basis points above the prior quarter. Net interest income rose USD 5.3 million sequentially. CEO Rajinder Singh cited continued deposit momentum and margin expansion as the highlights, and said the focus remains on increasing profitability. Net interest income was up USD 10.5 million from a year earlier. Ending total deposits of USD 28.31 billion were 1.9% below the second quarter, simple arithmetic, and non-interest-bearing deposits fell 8% sequentially but rose 6% from a year earlier. The bank repurchased about 2.1 million shares for USD 97.0 million in the quarter, an average near USD 46, so the session price of USD 42.59 sits roughly 8% below it, simple arithmetic. Ending loans were USD 23.82 billion, with average core loans up 4% year on year while planned non-core runoff held total loans flat.

Old National Bancorp (NASDAQ:ONB): Down 2.66% After Record Profit

Old National Bancorp (NASDAQ:ONB) reported net income applicable to common shares of USD 250.0 million on October 21, 2026, against USD 249.4 million in the second quarter and USD 178.5 million a year earlier. Pre-provision net revenue was USD 365.0 million, slightly below USD 367.9 million in the second quarter. Chairman and CEO Jim Ryan said the operating model remains strong and the company is well positioned to build on momentum. Published estimates left the revenue result mixed, so the cause of the decline is unclear. The efficiency ratio of 46.1% compares with 58.8% a year ago, which may reflect recent merger integration. Net interest income on a tax-equivalent basis was USD 592.0 million. Period-end loans were USD 51.2 billion, up USD 362.3 million, or 2.9% annualized, while deposits grew 10.6% annualized to USD 57.6 billion, lifting the loan-to-deposit ratio to 89%. Community Trust Bancorp (NASDAQ:CTBI) reported net income of USD 25.9 million on October 21, 2026, against USD 29.6 million in the second quarter and USD 23.9 million a year earlier. EPS of USD 1.43 was down about 12.8% from the prior quarter, simple arithmetic. The company sold a USD 8.7 million commercial relationship at auction in September, which had been accruing but more than 90 days past due, and booked a USD 4.3 million charge-off. That lifted the provision by USD 6.4 million from the second quarter. Net charge-offs were USD 6.6 million, 0.50% of average loans annualized, against USD 0.9 million, or 0.07%, a quarter earlier. Tax-equivalent net interest margin fell 17 basis points to 3.63% from 3.80% in the second quarter, though it was 3 basis points above 3.60% a year earlier. Diluted EPS was USD 1.61, up from USD 0.73. Two items helped. The provision for credit losses was only USD 150 thousand against USD 5.373 million a year earlier, and the purchase of USD 14.5 million of green energy tax credits cut the tax provision by USD 1.2 million, lowering the effective tax rate to 18.9% from 25.6%. The tax credit alone was about 10% of quarterly net income, simple arithmetic. Net income rose about 121% year on year, simple arithmetic. The net interest margin of 5.05% is high, supported by a lower-cost relationship-based deposit franchise and enhanced loan yields, according to CEO Andrew Ryback. The quarterly dividend was USD 0.33 a share, up from USD 0.30 a year earlier.

Where Things Stand

The four reports show that margins and credit costs set the reaction. BankUnited (NYSE:BKU) widened its margin to 3.16% and rose 0.64%. Old National Bancorp (NASDAQ:ONB) posted record profit yet fell 2.66% on margin and pipeline signals. Community Trust Bancorp (NASDAQ:CTBI) fell 7.60% after a USD 4.3 million charge-off and a 17 basis point margin decline. Plumas Bancorp (NASDAQ:PLBC) rose 1.03% on record net income helped by a low provision and tax credits. Investors should watch deposit trends, credit costs and loan growth in the fourth quarter, since several of these gains rely on one-off items.
