For once, Friday's earnings calendar ends before the opening bell. According to an earnings calendar, all 51 companies scheduled to report on Oct. 30 are releasing before the market opens. None are listed for after the close. That means today's earnings-driven moves should mostly be set by the time trading starts. After the close, attention shifts to the weekend and next week's heavier slate.
The biggest names are oil majors. Exxon Mobil (NYSE:XOM) reported third-quarter earnings excluding identified items of $17.51 billion, or $4.23 a share. That compares with a pre-week consensus of $3.96 on another calendar, though that estimate's basis isn't specified. Exxon also announced a $20 billion buyback plan for 2027. Chevron (NYSE:CVX) posted adjusted earnings of $5.28 a share, compared with a $4.78 pre-week estimate, and $12.0 billion of free cash flow. CEO Mike Wirth cited "strong operational performance and disciplined execution." Pre-market data showed Exxon up about 2.09% and Chevron up about 1.70%, with Brent near $117.80.
Health care and staples
AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV) reported revenue of $17.40 billion, up 10.3%, and raised its 2026 adjusted EPS outlook to $13.95 to $13.99. Skyrizi sales rose 22.7% and Rinvoq sales 23.9%. Market data had the stock up 3.20%. Regeneron (NASDAQ:REGN)'s revenue jumped 36% to $5.1 billion, with adjusted EPS of $20.07, and an 8:23 a.m. ET table showed it up 6.87%. Overseas drugmakers AstraZeneca (NASDAQ:AZN) and Sanofi (NASDAQ:SNY) also reported. Market data had AstraZeneca up 4.87%, and another table showed Sanofi up 3.92%.
In consumer staples, Colgate-Palmolive (NYSE:CL) raised its 2026 sales and profit guidance and rose 5.09%. Church & Dwight (NYSE:CHD) lifted its organic growth target to about 5% and gained 4.82%. Kenvue (NYSE:KVUE) reported organic growth of 2.9% but gave no guidance, citing its pending combination with Kimberly-Clark.
Other reports this morning included General Dynamics (NYSE:GD), which posted a record $220.3 billion Backlog and rose 3.53% per market data; Cboe Global Markets, which raised its organic growth outlook to "high teens"; utilities Dominion Energy (NYSE:D) and Exelon (NASDAQ:EXC); and LyondellBasell (NYSE:LYB), which called Middle East conditions "fluid." AutoNation (NYSE:AN), Lear (NYSE:LEA), Newell Brands (NASDAQ:NWL), Capri (NYSE:CPRI), OneMain (NYSE:OMF), Federal Realty (NYSE:FRT), RBC Bearings (NASDAQ:RBC) and nVent (NYSE:NVT) also reported. nVent's figures weren't available in the sources reviewed.
A few smaller reports are worth noting for the read on the economy. OneMain's consumer Loan net charge-offs rose to 6.89% from 6.67% a year earlier, a sign that stress among lower-income borrowers hasn't eased. AutoNation grew adjusted EPS for a seventh straight quarter even as revenue slipped 0.4%. Capri said revenue should return to growth in the second half of its fiscal year. Federal Realty raised its 2026 FFO guidance to $7.54 to $7.58 a share.
Why it matters today and what comes next
These morning reports are largely defensive: energy, pharma, staples and defense. They explain why Dow futures were flat while Nasdaq-100 futures fell about 2.6% around 8 a.m. ET. The Nasdaq is still reacting to Thursday evening's reports from Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN), Intel (NASDAQ:INTC), Reddit (NYSE:RDDT), Roblox (NYSE:RBLX) and Twilio (NYSE:TWLO). That makes the earnings tape a tale of two markets.
A caution: pre-market moves can reverse once full Volume arrives at 9:30 a.m. Several reports, including Exxon's, didn't include consensus figures in the sources reviewed. Beat-or-miss judgments partly rely on secondary coverage.
With nothing reporting after the close, the next big earnings event is Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), after Monday's close on Nov. 2. Next week also brings AMD (NASDAQ:AMD), Qualcomm (NASDAQ:QCOM), Palantir (NASDAQ:PLTR), McDonald's (NYSE:MCD), Amgen (NASDAQ:AMGN) and ConocoPhillips (NYSE:COP), among more than 100 S&P 500 companies. Several earnings calls from this morning, including nVent's at 9:00 a.m. ET, take place during the session and could still move individual stocks.
