Exxon (NYSE:XOM): Refining beat with USD 19.1 billion free cash flow
Exxon (NYSE:XOM) published Q3 results on October 30, 2026. Adjusted EPS was USD 4.23 on adjusted earnings of USD 17.5 billion, while reported EPS was USD 3.72 on USD 15.4 billion. The gap between adjusted and reported figures reflects items management excludes to show underlying performance. The consensus figures, about USD 4.08 for EPS and USD 16.6 billion for earnings, come from a single market summary, so the beat is described with that caveat. Free Cash Flow was USD 19.1 billion. Shares were up about 1.8% to 2.1% in premarket trading, a snapshot that may change when the regular session opens at 9:30 a.m. ET. Downstream adjusted earnings of about USD 9 billion were up 120% from Q2 as war-related refining margins surged. One summary says refining earned more than Upstream for the first time in at least six years, a claim that rests on one account that we could not confirm. Refining profit depends on the spread between crude cost and product prices, so Supply disruptions that lift fuel prices faster than crude can widen margins. Upstream adjusted earnings fell sequentially on lower prices and a Guyana entitlement effect. Brent traded at USD 113 to USD 118 and WTI near USD 103 to USD 104 on Hormuz tanker incidents, which shows how volatile the backdrop is.
Chevron (NYSE:CVX): Adjusted EPS nearly triple a year ago
Chevron (NYSE:CVX) published Q3 results on October 30, 2026. Adjusted earnings were USD 10.4 billion and adjusted EPS USD 5.28, compared with USD 1.85 a year ago. Reported EPS was USD 5.06 on USD 9.9 billion of earnings. Adjusted figures exclude items management treats as one-off, so the two measures differ, and readers should note which one a headline cites. The shares rose about 1.7% in premarket, a snapshot ahead of the 9:30 a.m. ET open. We could not verify consensus EPS. One preview cited USD 4.87 and one headline called revenue of USD 30.5 billion a miss, but neither is confirmed. A primary filing check is recommended before relying on any comparison. Net production of 3.98 million barrels of oil equivalent per day was lower than the 4.07 million of Q2, so the profit gain did not come from pumping more. Refining margins reflect the gap between product prices and crude costs, and war-related disruption has widened that gap across the sector. Brent traded at USD 113 to USD 118 and WTI near USD 103 to USD 104 on Hormuz tanker incidents. Lower production alongside higher profit highlights how dependent the quarter is on downstream conditions.
AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV): Raised 2026 guidance and Skyrizi growth
AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV) reported Q3 results on October 30, 2026. Net revenue was USD 17.404 billion, up 10.3%, and adjusted EPS was USD 3.82 after an acquired R&D charge of USD 0.11. The company lifted its 2026 adjusted EPS guidance to USD 13.95 to USD 13.99, from USD 13.76 to USD 13.96. Note that the new range raises the low end more than the high end, narrowing the band. We verified these figures from a copy of the company release. We could not verify consensus EPS or revenue, so we do not claim a beat. Shares rose about 3.2% in premarket, a snapshot before the 9:30 a.m. ET open. Skyrizi sales reached USD 5.776 billion and Rinvoq USD 2.706 billion, each up more than 22%. Meanwhile Humira fell 31.2%, a drag common when a drug faces biosimilar competition and lower prices. The company's growth therefore depends on newer immunology drugs replacing that lost revenue. AbbVie (NYSE:ABBV) also announced FDA approvals and Phase 3 data, including lutikizumab in hidradenitis suppurativa and Epkinly, which broaden the pipeline.
Mondelez (NASDAQ:MDLZ): Premarket beat among defensives
Mondelez (NASDAQ:MDLZ) reported higher Q3 adjusted earnings and revenue than expected, and the shares rose about 7% in Friday premarket. AstraZeneca beat before the open and rose about 5%, while AbbVie gained about 3% after raising its 2026 adjusted EPS guide. Exact Mondelez (NASDAQ:MDLZ) and AstraZeneca figures were not available to us, though the direction of the results was confirmed in two accounts. BP reported Underlying Profit of USD 8.46 billion against USD 7.33 billion expected, a figure from one account. Technology fell sharply in the same session, with Intel and Amazon lower after their results. These are premarket snapshots and can change at the 9:30 a.m. ET open. When Growth Stocks sell off, some investors shift into companies whose Demand is steadier, such as food makers and drug companies. Mondelez (NASDAQ:MDLZ) sells snacks that people buy through economic cycles, so its earnings are less tied to technology spending or AI budgets, which is the usual reason such stocks attract buyers in a sell-off. The sector ETF moves show the rotation: XLP gained 2.08% and XLV 1.23% in premarket, while XLK lost 3.22%. A rotation is a shift in positioning, not proof that fundamentals have changed, and it can unwind quickly if technology steadies.
Where Things Stand
The answer is that energy, drug and food results arrived on a day when technology sold off, so they stood out. Exxon (NYSE:XOM) and Chevron benefited from wide refining margins, AbbVie from immunology growth and a higher guide, and Mondelez from a beat. The moves are premarket snapshots, and a rotation toward defensives does not prove fundamentals changed. The 9:30 a.m. ET open and oil prices are the next catalysts. This is not Investment advice.
