Amazfit, the wearable technology brand owned by Zepp Health (NYSE: ZEPP), has launched a new square version of its recently introduced Active 2 smartwatch. Revealed at CES 2025 and also featured at Pepcom and ShowStoppers, the Amazfit Active 2 Square is designed for consumers who prefer a rectangular form factor while maintaining the same performance and features as its round counterpart.

The square variant of the Active 2 is equipped with a 1.75-inch AMOLED display protected by sapphire glass and surrounded by a polished stainless-steel frame. The screen delivers a peak brightness of 2,000 nits to ensure visibility in a range of lighting conditions. The watch is designed with an emphasis on display clarity and intuitive access to health data, notifications, and workout tools.

A major hardware update in the Active 2 Square is the BioTracker™ 6.0 PPG biosensor. This dual-LED, 5 photodiode setup increases the amount of biometric data the watch can track, helping improve the precision of health measurements. Zepp Health has also added improved algorithms—PulsePrecision™ for heart rate tracking and RestoreIQ™ for sleep monitoring—bringing the device’s capabilities in line with its T-Rex 3 series.

Additional sensors now include a barometer for altitude measurements, an ambient light sensor for automatic brightness adjustment, and motion sensors for improved sleep and activity recognition. These features build on the previous generation's capabilities while expanding compatibility with winter sports such as skiing.

The device offers up to 10 days of battery life under standard usage conditions, reducing the need for frequent recharging. It also supports Zepp Flow™, a voice assistant that allows users to manage watch functions, interact with their calendar, and respond to messages using either speech-to-text or an on-screen keyboard (available to Android users).

In terms of fitness and wellness tools, the Active 2 Square includes over 160 sports modes, including an official HYROX Race Mode and a smart strength training mode that can automatically detect specific exercises, count repetitions, and track rest periods. For outdoor sports and navigation, the smartwatch supports offline maps and turn-by-turn directions through 5 satellite systems. Directions can be followed visually or audibly via the built-in speaker or paired Bluetooth headphones.

Zepp Coach™ integration allows users to access personalized training and running programs based on fitness level and goals, covering activities from short runs to marathons. Female users can access the Wild.AI mini app directly on the device to receive wellness insights tied to menstrual and hormonal cycle tracking.

Daily readiness scores, heart rate variability (HRV), and other recovery metrics are also included to provide a snapshot of physical and mental condition, enhancing the watch’s use for wellness and fitness tracking.

The Amazfit Active 2 Square is available for purchase starting today on the company’s official website and Amazon. It is priced at USD 149.99 in the U.S. and EUR 149.90 in Europe.
