Lowered Guidance Hits Shares

Boston Scientific (NYSE:BSX) shares are indicated down 6.08% at $42.32 in premarket after third-quarter results that were roughly in line but a cut to the 2026 outlook as the August cyberattack weighs on the business. Revenue of $5.14 billion was up 1.5%, and adjusted EPS was $0.73 against a $0.76 estimate. The healthcare sector ETF is down about 0.8% in premarket.

Boston Scientific, headquartered in Marlborough, Massachusetts and founded in 1979, is a global medical technology company that designs, manufactures and markets minimally invasive devices for interventional specialties, including cardiology, electrophysiology, endoscopy, urology, pelvic health, neuromodulation and interventional oncology. Its portfolio includes the FARAPULSE pulsed field ablation platform and the WATCHMAN left atrial appendage closure device, and it sells mainly to hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers and specialty clinics under CEO Michael Mahoney.

Cyberattack Disrupted Manufacturing and Shipments

A Form 8-K filed on September 8 disclosed a cyber incident that disrupted manufacturing, order processing and shipments, and the company said it was unlikely to meet its prior third-quarter guidance of $0.80 to $0.82 adjusted EPS and 3% to 5% sales growth. Manufacturing, fulfillment and shipping have since been restored.

Guidance Resets Below Consensus

Full-year adjusted EPS guidance was lowered to $3.16 to $3.18 from $3.28 to $3.32, below the $3.22 to $3.24 consensus. Fourth-quarter guidance calls for adjusted EPS of $0.77 to $0.79 and a 1% to 3% sales decline, under estimates of about $0.83 to $0.84.

The company has beaten EPS estimates in each of its recent quarters, including $0.86 in the second quarter on revenue of $5.44 billion, up 7.5%.

Competition and Delayed Procedures Stay in Focus

Investors are also watching WATCHMAN competition from Abbott (NYSE:ABT) and the recapture of delayed procedures. Management plans to use selective acquisitions, including the pending acquisition of Penumbra (NYSE:PEN).

The analyst average target of about $57.82 is well above the current price, but the guidance reset is pressuring sentiment. Boston Scientific has a market cap of $65.30 billion, and the 52-week range runs from $41.39 to $105.65. Options had implied a move of about 6.76% into the report.
