Evotec SE (Frankfurt Stock Exchange: EVT; Nasdaq: EVO) has announced its participation in the NURTuRE-AKI consortium, a longitudinal research initiative focused on acute kidney injury (AKI) and its progression to chronic kidney disease (CKD). The study targets both adult and pediatric cardiac surgery patients at high risk of developing AKI, aiming to build the most detailed global patient cohort for this condition.

The NURTuRE-AKI study collects biological samples — including blood, urine, and research biopsies — at multiple time points. These will undergo comprehensive omics analysis to identify molecular pathways involved in AKI onset and progression. The consortium’s large-scale data collection is intended to support the discovery of diagnostic biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets through in-depth molecular profiling.

The data generated from NURTuRE-AKI will be integrated into Evotec’s Molecular Patient Database (E.MPD), which consolidates multi-omics data with clinical patient records to support precision medicine strategies. This integration is expected to accelerate drug discovery programs targeting kidney diseases, an area with substantial unmet clinical need.

By participating in this effort, Evotec strengthens its research infrastructure around renal disease and supports its broader precision medicine initiatives. The consortium collaboration also underscores the importance of data-driven approaches in identifying disease mechanisms and tailoring treatment strategies.

Dr. Cord Dohrmann, Chief Scientific Officer of Evotec, highlighted that the partnership enables the company to identify novel therapeutic targets based on molecular and clinical data. He also indicated that Evotec is seeking further collaborations to expand the scope and impact of the initiative.

Elaine Davies of Kidney Research UK, a key consortium member, noted the significance of the project in shaping future kidney disease research. With early success from previous NURTuRE cohorts in CKD and nephrotic syndrome (INS), expectations remain high for the AKI extension to drive advances in diagnosis and patient care.

The NURTuRE-AKI initiative reflects a collaborative model increasingly used in pharmaceutical research to translate large-scale patient data into targeted therapy pipelines.
