Upsized Offering Closes With $365.1 Million in Gross Proceeds
Lycia Therapeutics (NASDAQ:LYCA) shares are trading down 6.03% to $27.11 as investors digest the closing of its upsized initial public offering. The company sold 20,286,000 shares at $18.00 each, including the full exercise of the underwriters' option to buy 2,646,000 additional shares, for gross proceeds of about $365.1 million before fees and expenses. All shares were offered by the company, and trading began on the Nasdaq Global Select Market on October 23.
Shares opened at $26.51, following a decline of nearly 10% in after-hours action on Monday. The stock is still about 51% above the offer price, and the quote screen shows a market cap of $1.41 billion and a 52-week range of $22.19 to $36.49. Jefferies, TD Cowen, Evercore ISI and Guggenheim Securities served as joint book-running managers.
LYTAC Platform Targets Disease-Causing Extracellular Proteins
Lycia, based in South San Francisco, is a clinical-stage biotechnology company that develops therapeutics designed to degrade disease-causing proteins found outside the cell. Its proprietary LYTAC platform, short for Lysosomal Targeting Chimera, produces catalytic degraders built for repeated elimination of target proteins, with an initial focus on autoimmune, inflammatory and allergic diseases. The company was founded in 2019 on the work of Nobel laureate Carolyn Bertozzi.
The lead program, LCA-0061, degrades IgE for food allergy and other allergic diseases. LCA-0321 is designed to selectively remove the autoantibodies behind Graves' disease. A second IgE degrader, LCA-0062, is in IND-enabling studies.
Lead Program Data Not Expected Until 2027 After Lilly Exit
Both lead programs are in Phase 1, and data are not expected until 2027. Eli Lilly (NYSE:LLY) ended its collaboration with the company in February, according to market commentary. The company says offering proceeds should fund operations into the second half of 2029, which covers the 2027 readouts.
The weakness looks stock-specific. The State Street Health Care Select Sector SPDR ETF is little changed, down 0.09%, and Lilly, the fund's largest holding at about 15.7%, is due to report third-quarter results on October 29.
Quiet Period Keeps Analyst Coverage Off Until Early December
Analyst coverage has not started, with the quiet period running to early December. Until then, price action is being set by IPO supply and sector flows rather than published estimates. The next fundamental catalysts are the 2027 data readouts for LCA-0061 and LCA-0321.
