Price Increase and Plant Closure

On August 31, 2026 it said it will close its Monterrey, Mexico electrode plant, with production ending early in the second quarter of 2027. Capacity falls by about 51,000 metric tons to about 127,000 tons, cash cost savings are USD 20 million to USD 25 million a year, and Capital spending drops about USD 5 million a year, with closure costs of USD 20 million to USD 25 million. On September 8 it announced a minimum 30% price increase for open negotiations, and the stock rose 2.26% that day. Production at Monterrey ends in 2027, so savings arrive later.
Antora and Price Action
On September 10 GrafTech and Antora Energy signed a non-binding memorandum of understanding on a collaboration to power American industry with carbon, with eight bake furnaces back online at its St. Marys, Pennsylvania plant, and Antora closed a USD 550 million Series C. Risks and What to Watch

Gross debt of USD 1,225 million is about six times its USD 217 million market value, simple arithmetic, so small changes in margins move the stock sharply. A price increase can Fail if steelmakers resist or cheaper imports Fill demand. The 52-week range is USD 4.92 to USD 20.32. Watch the third quarter call on October 23, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. EDT for realized prices and volumes. Steel Demand weakness could also hold back volumes.
Where Things Stand
GrafTech (NYSE:EAF) rose about 17% in a month on a 30% electrode price increase, a plant closure that cuts costs and a non-binding collaboration memorandum with Antora. Leverage is the issue, with USD 1,225 million of debt against a USD 217 million market value. The third quarter report on October 23, 2026 will show whether price increases are sticking. Until then the stock is volatile. GrafTech (NYSE:EAF) needs pricing to stick.
