Share prices and company reports do not always move together. Uniti Group Inc. (NASDAQ:UNIT), the fiber and wholesale infrastructure provider formed through its merger with Windstream, raised its 2026 revenue and adjusted EBITDA outlook on July 30, yet its stock has since fallen sharply. Market reporting published October 14 said the shares had lost 32% over the past four weeks, leaving them in what technical analysts call oversold territory. No single company announcement explaining the move was found.
Guidance Up, Shares Down
On July 30, Uniti reported second-quarter revenue of $909.7 million, above the $884.8 million analysts had expected. The loss per share of $0.68 was wider than the consensus estimate of $0.45. Management lifted full-year revenue guidance to between $3.63 billion and $3.68 billion and adjusted EBITDA guidance to between $1.45 billion and $1.50 billion. It also widened the expected net loss to between $480 million and $530 million. At that time shares traded near $10.04; an aggregator quote of about $5.64 on October 14 implies a market value of roughly $1.6 billion.
Debt Dominates the Equity Story
At June 30, Uniti reported about $10.65 billion of notes and other debt, $608.9 million of cash, and shareholders' equity of $161.5 million. Because debt is so large relative to the equity value, a modest change in how investors view fiber growth, interest costs or refinancing can move the share price by a large percentage, amplified by interest expense guided at about $805 million for 2026. On the operating side, management reported record fiber bookings and record Kinetic fiber net additions of about 38,000, though Kinetic average revenue per user fell 2.6% year on year.
A Highly Leveraged Business Meets Sentiment Swings
Uniti's recent share decline illustrates how quickly sentiment can move for a highly leveraged business even when it raises guidance and posts record operating metrics. Analyst opinion remains more positive than the price action, with a consensus average target near $11.47, though targets are often updated after price moves and the next quarterly report is estimated for November 9.
