Align Technology, Inc. (Nasdaq:ALGN) has introduced the Invisalign System with mandibular advancement featuring occlusal blocks, now commercially available in India. This product is designed to treat Class II skeletal and dental malocclusions by aligning teeth and advancing the mandible simultaneously.

Class II malocclusion affects roughly 30–45% of global orthodontic cases, commonly characterized by a misaligned jaw where the lower jaw sits too far back. The new Invisalign system targets growing patients between ages 10 and 16, who are in late mixed or early permanent dentition. By using the patient’s natural growth stage, the system aims to improve occlusal function, jaw alignment, and treatment timelines.

The occlusal blocks are laser-welded to enhance structural rigidity and allow for vertical bite opening, important for initiating mandibular advancement earlier in treatment. In some cases, the need for a separate pre-advancement phase is eliminated. Attachments can also be applied under the blocks to help with leveling and controlling tooth movement.

The aligners are made from SmartTrack material, a proprietary Align Technology polymer developed for better fit and comfort. The integration of SmartForce features and SmartStage technology supports consistent, predictable movement.

Orthodontists in Australia, New Zealand, and Canada who have used the system cited increased patient comfort and fewer treatment delays due to damage or discomfort. The absence of palatal coverage and elastics was also noted as a benefit in terms of patient experience and treatment simplicity.

The product is being launched in select Asia-Pacific markets including India, Australia, Japan, and Hong Kong, with further expansion expected by the end of 2025. It adds to Align’s growing treatment options for younger patients, alongside Invisalign First and the Invisalign Palatal Expander System.

About the company: Align Technology designs and manufactures the Invisalign clear aligner system, iTero intraoral scanners, and exocad CAD/CAM software. The newly launched occlusal block feature marks the company’s first integration of solid blocks into aligners, enabling earlier mandibular advancement in patients with deep bite or retrusion.
