A Narrow Beat After a Large Run
Bandwidth Inc. (NASDAQ:BAND) shares fell in pre-market trading after the company reported record third-quarter revenue of $234.0 million, up 22%, against estimates of about $233.1 million. Adjusted earnings per share were $0.50 against $0.47 expected, and adjusted EBITDA rose 43% to a record $35 million.
The size of the beat was small relative to the stock's performance. The shares had risen about 225% this year on enthusiasm for artificial intelligence voice demand, and two research firms recently initiated coverage with neutral ratings, questioning whether that optimism was already reflected in the price. The Nasdaq-100 was also indicated lower.
Bandwidth is a Raleigh, North Carolina cloud communications software company and CPaaS provider. It delivers voice calling, text messaging and emergency services through composable APIs, running on an owned global IP voice network covering more than 65 countries. Most revenue is usage-based, and about 1,100 people work at the company.
Guidance and the 2027 Question
Management raised the midpoints of its full-year 2026 outlook across all guidance metrics and described the fourth quarter as the turning point in growth rates. The 2026 EPS guide of $1.73 to $1.79 was only slightly above the $1.75 consensus.
The company said it has growing confidence in double-digit cloud communications revenue growth in fiscal 2027, even while lapping this year's political messaging revenue, a tailwind of roughly $13 million that will not repeat. Support includes 11 deals above $1 million in annual contract value signed so far this year, which deploy in phases over the next 12 months, and early Salesforce traction not yet in the 2026 outlook. Management also cited adoption of its Maestro product in winning a financial services customer worth more than $1 million.
Valuation Snapshot
Bandwidth has a market capitalisation of about $1.46 billion, a forward price-to-earnings ratio near 25.5 and trailing EPS of $1.47. Its 52-week range is $12.50 to $79.08. The company also added a former private equity executive to its board.
What Investors Will Weigh Next
The quarter confirms steady execution, but the reaction shows how much was expected. Conversion of the large deals into revenue and the first read on 2027 growth without the political messaging tailwind are the next tests.
