LightPath Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ: LPTH) announced that its recently acquired subsidiary, G5 Infrared, has secured a $2.2 million engineering development model (EDM) order from L3Harris Technologies. The order, which is part of the U.S. Navy's Shipboard Panoramic Electro-Optic/Infrared (SPEIR) Program, calls for the delivery of advanced infrared camera systems in 2025. These systems will enhance the Navy's ability to detect and defend against a range of threats, including anti-ship cruise missiles, fast attack craft, and unmanned aerial vehicles.

The SPEIR program is a critical initiative for the U.S. Navy, aimed at integrating narrow and wide field of view detection capabilities into its fleet of surface ships. The infrared systems from G5 will play an essential role in improving the Navy's operational readiness and providing enhanced passive electronic support capabilities. The systems will be initially installed on Arleigh-Burke-class destroyers, with plans for further integration across other U.S. Navy vessels.

Sam Rubin, President and CEO of LightPath, emphasized the significance of the order, noting that it strengthens the company’s position in the defense sector. He highlighted that this order represents the first major collaboration between LightPath and G5 since the acquisition, underlining the strategic value of the integration. The acquisition of G5 Infrared enhances LightPath’s portfolio, adding high-end cooled infrared camera systems that cater to both defense and commercial applications.

The contract further supports LightPath's strategy to become a leading vertically integrated provider of infrared imaging solutions. The company aims to capitalize on the $9 billion infrared imaging market, with G5's innovative camera systems playing a key role in the company's growth in the coming years.
