Roblox (NYSE:RBLX) plunged on Friday, October 30, 2026, after its third-quarter report showed fewer people on the platform and a fourth-quarter forecast that fell short of Wall Street's hopes. Reports differed on the size of the decline, but the stock was one of the heaviest losers on the NYSE Composite during a broad selloff in technology shares.
On the headline numbers, the quarter was better than feared. Bookings came to $1.70 billion, ahead of the $1.62 billion analysts expected, although they declined from a year earlier. The loss per share of $0.32 was narrower than the $0.43 consensus. But daily active users fell from a year earlier to 138 million, missing the 145.8 million that analysts had forecast.
The GTA factor
Chief Financial Officer Naveen Chopra pointed to a major game release. He cited "a modest headwind from the release of GTA in the quarter," according to market data. He also said: "We don't assume short-term improvement in monetization."
That caution showed up in guidance. Roblox forecast fourth-quarter bookings of $1.89 billion to $2.0 billion, a decline from a year earlier and below the $2.02 billion analysts expected. It guided adjusted EBITDA for the quarter to a range of negative $70 million to negative $10 million and put fourth-quarter Capital spending at $380 million.
The timing matters. Take-Two (NASDAQ:TTWO) Interactive, the publisher of the Grand Theft Auto series, has GTA VI launching on November 19, right in the middle of Roblox's holiday quarter. Take-Two reaffirmed its full-year net bookings guidance of $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion, and its shares slipped only slightly on Friday as they moved with the gaming group.
Analysts trim targets
Several Brokers lowered their price targets after the report. Roth MKM cut its target to $54 from $60, and UBS (NYSE:UBS) and StoneX (NASDAQ:SNEX) also reduced their targets, according to market data. The cuts followed the weaker user trend and the softer bookings outlook.
Roblox, based in San Mateo, California, runs an online platform where users create and play games built by other users. Its Business depends on daily engagement and on spending on its virtual currency, which is why the user count and bookings guidance carried so much weight.
A punishing day for tech
The market offered no cushion. The S&P 500 fell 140.32 points to 7,580.07, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 572.25 points to 51,770.31 and the Nasdaq Composite lost 747.73 points to 25,437.00, its worst day since June. Intel (NASDAQ:INTC)'s warning about cash burn and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN)'s negative trailing free Cash Flow drove heavy selling in chip, AI and software stocks.
Other internet and gaming names also struggled. Reddit (NYSE:RDDT) sank after warning about users, and Pinterest (NYSE:PINS) extended its post-earnings decline. Unity fell as well, according to market data
What to watch
The key test arrives in November, when GTA VI goes on sale and Roblox's engagement numbers face direct competition from a major new release. Investors will look for any update on daily users and on whether bookings track within the company's guidance range.
Broader forces will also matter. The midterm elections on Tuesday, November 3, and the October jobs report on Friday, November 6, could shift sentiment toward growth stocks. The Federal Reserve held rates this week, but markets are leaning toward a December hike.
