Shares of Roblox (NYSE:RBLX) tumbled on Friday, October 30, 2026, after the online gaming platform reported that daily active users fell from a year earlier to 138 million, missing the 145.8 million analysts expected, according to market data. The stock was one of the hardest-hit names on the NYSE Composite.

The headline numbers were better than feared in some respects. Third-quarter bookings came in at $1.70 billion, ahead of the $1.62 billion estimate, though down from a year earlier. Roblox lost $0.32 a share, a narrower loss than analysts had forecast.

Reports differed on the size of Friday's drop, with multiple sources all showing a steep decline.

A disappointing holiday outlook

The guidance did the most damage. Roblox forecast fourth-quarter bookings of $1.89 billion to $2.0 billion, below the $2.02 billion analysts expected and down from a year earlier. It guided fourth-quarter adjusted EBITDA to a range of negative $70 million to negative $10 million, and set fourth-quarter Capital spending at $380 million.

Chief financial officer Naveen Chopra signaled caution. "We don't assume short-term improvement in monetization," he said. He also cited "a modest headwind from the release of GTA in the quarter," a reference to Take-Two (NASDAQ:TTWO) Interactive's Grand Theft Auto VI, which launches Nov. 19.

Analysts responded with target cuts. Roth MKM lowered its price target to $54 from $60, and UBS (NYSE:UBS) and StoneX (NASDAQ:SNEX) also cut their targets.

Gaming peers under pressure

The selling spread across gaming stocks. Unity Software fell alongside Roblox, and Take-Two slipped slightly, even as it reaffirmed its full-year net bookings guidance of $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion ahead of the GTA VI launch.

Roblox's results joined a run of disappointing reports from consumer internet companies. Reddit (NYSE:RDDT) plunged after warning that daily users could fall, and Pinterest (NYSE:PINS) extended losses after missing estimates.

Tech-led rout

The broader market offered no shelter. The Nasdaq Composite fell 747.73 points to 25,437.00, its worst day since June, after Intel (NASDAQ:INTC)'s cash-burn warning set off a global chip selloff and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN)'s results raised fresh questions about AI spending. The S&P 500 lost 140.32 points to 7,580.07, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 572.25 points to 51,770.31 and the Russell 2000 fell 47.37 points to 2,811.84.

Communication services, the sector that includes many internet and entertainment companies, was among the weakest groups, while energy, consumer staples, utilities and health care rose. An Investment strategist said: "The Earnings bar is very high." A trading specialist put it more bluntly: "A lot of them kind of got ahead of themselves. It's all earnings based and right now, they're not producing,"

Rates added to the caution. The Federal Reserve left its benchmark rate range unchanged earlier in the week, but two officials dissented in favor of a hike, and CME FedWatch data showed traders treating a December increase as likely.

What to watch

The holiday quarter will test whether Roblox can stabilize engagement as GTA VI arrives on Nov. 19. Investors will watch user trends and bookings for signs of a turn, along with any further analyst revisions after the guidance.

On the broader calendar, the midterm elections on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and the October jobs report on Friday, Nov. 6, will shape expectations for the Fed's December meeting and for consumer spending into the holidays.
