WISeKey International Holding Ltd (NASDAQ: WKEY), in partnership with the OISTE.ORG Foundation, has unveiled the "Quantum Root Key," a new Root of Trust designed to secure digital identities, communications, and systems against the growing threat of quantum computing. This initiative leverages post-quantum cryptographic (PQC) algorithms to create a robust defense system against quantum-based cyberattacks.
The rise of quantum computing poses a significant challenge to current encryption methods, which rely on the difficulty of solving mathematical problems like factoring large prime numbers. Once quantum computing advances, these traditional encryption schemes will become vulnerable. The "Quantum Root Key" addresses this challenge by using NIST-standardized PQC algorithms, including ML-DSA, ML-KEM, and FALCON, which are designed to withstand quantum-based attacks and maintain long-term confidentiality for digital data.
The new PQC-based system will be integrated into WISeKey’s existing Trust Services infrastructure, ensuring secure authentication and quantum-safe encryption for a wide range of critical applications, including financial transactions, medical data, and government communications. The platform offers a seamless transition from traditional encryption models, using larger key sizes and quantum-resistant algorithms to safeguard sensitive information from quantum adversaries.
Moreover, WISeKey’s semiconductor subsidiary, SEALSQ Corp (NASDAQ: LAES), has launched the SEALSQ Quantum Lab, providing businesses and researchers access to the PQC-PKI platform for pilot projects and early-stage deployment. This initiative aims to facilitate the adoption of quantum-resistant certificates, particularly in sectors such as defense, healthcare, finance, and telecommunications, where long-term data security is crucial.
