Segments and guidance
DTE Electric produced operating earnings of $270 million, or $1.30 per share, compared with $318 million a year earlier. DTE Gas recorded an operating loss of $4 million, against a $6 million profit. DTE Vantage rose to $45 million from $31 million, and Energy Trading to $41 million from $24 million. Corporate and Other lost $78 million, narrower than the $96 million loss a year earlier. DTE confirmed its 2026 operating earnings guidance of $7.59 to $7.73 per share; that is management guidance, and the release gives no full-year reported earnings forecast. Net cash from operations was $1,679 million in the first half, against $1,729 million, while utility capital spending in the cash flow statement was $2,688 million, up from $1,811 million.
Investment and data centers
DTE said it invested more than $2.6 billion in its utilities in the first half, including over $900 million on electric reliability, and announced a $1.6 billion investment with LG Energy Solution Vertech in eight Michigan battery storage projects totaling 1.5 gigawatts. It also said that if its first data center project comes online by the end of 2027 and other regulatory approvals are received, it plans not to file another electric rate request until at least 2028.
Reports in April 2026 said the project is a Related Digital campus in Saline Township built for Oracle (NYSE:ORCL), that DTE would supply its power, and that DTE expects the two data center contracts to contribute about $9 billion to its system through 2045. The same reports said a rate filing of $474.3 million was made on April 28, with a decision not expected until late February 2027.
Dividend and funding
DTE declared a quarterly dividend of $1.165 per share on June 18, 2026, payable on October 15, 2026 to holders of record on September 21, 2026. If repeated four times, that would be $4.66 annually, equal to roughly 60% of the guided operating earnings range. Dividends paid in the first half were $467 million. Funding needs are substantial: in the six months DTE issued $2,571 million of long-term debt and redeemed $137 million, while junior subordinated debentures rose to $2,464 million from $1,474 million at the end of 2025.
Rate-Case Pause and the November 5 Release
DTE is a constituent of the S&P 500, where it is classified in utilities, within multi-utilities. The utility sector's growth case increasingly rests on large electricity loads such as data centers, so timing matters: the rate-case pause depends on the first facility starting on schedule and on approvals, and the Michigan decision on the pending request is not expected until 2027. Borrowing to fund investment also affects the balance sheet. DTE has scheduled its third-quarter 2026 earnings release for before the market opens on Thursday, November 5, 2026, with a conference call at 9:00 a.m. Eastern.
