- Ranpak’s automated solutions expected to enhance Thalia’s ecommerce and retail operations
Ranpak Holdings Corp. (NYSE: PACK) has announced a strategic partnership with Thalia, the largest book retail chain in the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland), to enhance the sustainability and efficiency of Thalia’s fulfillment operations. The collaboration will begin with the installation of 12 Ranpak automated packaging systems at Thalia’s new fulfillment facility, which is set to open in 2026.
The initial phase includes three types of Ranpak systems: 3 Cut'It!™ EVO, 3 Form'It!™ packers, and 6 Flap'it!™ systems. These systems are designed to optimize packaging processes by reducing waste, improving package protection, and streamlining operations. Cut'It! EVO optimizes the size of shipping boxes to minimize void space, while Form'It! automates box forming, and Flap'it! ensures efficient right-sizing for small, flat items.
Thalia’s new fulfillment hub will integrate Ranpak’s technology to enhance throughput across its ecommerce platform and more than 500 brick-and-mortar stores. The partnership reflects both companies’ shared commitment to sustainability, with the Ranpak solutions contributing to Thalia’s environmental goals by reducing material waste and energy consumption.
This first stage of the collaboration also sets the foundation for future expansions, as Thalia continues to scale its operations to meet growing demand from both digital and retail channels. Additional Ranpak systems are under consideration as part of the long-term plan to optimize the supply chain.
The partnership with Thalia marks another step in Ranpak’s strategy to expand its sustainable packaging solutions across global industries. Ranpak’s integration into Thalia’s operations is supported by Element Logic, known for optimizing warehouse systems with cutting-edge technologies like AutoStore.
Financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed, but the installation of the automated systems is expected to significantly enhance both operational efficiency and sustainability for Thalia in the coming years.
