Operating margin rose to 13.2% of sales from 10.8%. A Tariff recovery line contributed 2.4% of sales to that margin, as the company recognized about USD 1.6 million in Operating Income from refunds of IEEPA tariffs, plus USD 0.1 million of interest income.
Mix, Margins and Cost Detail
Sales fell in basketball, indoor games and table tennis against a prior year quarter that included shipments delayed by tariff related order timing, and the company also exited certain lower margin product lines. Archery grew on strong vertical bow Demand and the contribution from the September 2025 Gold Tip acquisition, while safety and outdoor games also rose. Chief Executive Officer Patrick Griffin said customer mix shifted toward dealer Business and direct to consumer sales, which carry higher margins.
Gross margin of 29.4% compares with 28.1% a year ago. Selling, general and administrative expense was USD 11.6 million, up USD 0.4 million, or 3.6%, on Acquisition related selling costs, professional fees and advertising, and rose to 17.7% of sales from 16.5%. EBITDA increased USD 1.4 million to USD 10.0 million. For nine months, net sales rose 0.8% to USD 179.1 million and diluted EPS was USD 1.48 versus USD 0.72, with USD 11.9 million of tariff recoveries recognized in that span.
Balance Sheet and Forward Statements
Cash and equivalents totaled USD 24.5 million and total Debt was USD 13.1 million, all classified as current because the term Loan and revolving Facility mature on January 21, 2027. The company repaid USD 1.8 million of debt during the quarter and added USD 8.1 million to cash. Inventory was USD 77.8 million, about USD 2.9 million below the prior year level despite acquisitions, and management still targets inventory turns of 3x. The company said cash generated from 2026 and first quarter 2027 operations is sufficient to repay the remaining term loan balance.
Management said consumer discretionary spending remains pressured by Inflation and economic uncertainty, and that it is planning a more frequent cadence of holiday promotions. New products in pickleball, table tennis and billiards are cited as supports for share gains into 2027, and the company closed the ASL Solutions acquisition, a maker of insulated dog houses bought for about USD 1.9 million, during the quarter.
Items That Frame the Next Quarter
A few specifics stand out. The term loan balance of USD 13.1 million comes due on January 21, 2027. The USD 1.6 million of tariff recovery in operating income lifted the quarter, so the margin line excluding that item is a point of comparison. Capital spending projects are slated to rise modestly in the fourth quarter and into next year, and cash of USD 24.5 million is positioned against an acquisition pipeline that management called growing. The quarterly Dividend stands at USD 0.1525 per share, up from USD 0.15 a year earlier.
