Halliburton (NYSE: HAL) shares were trading at USD 34.92 on October 23, 2026, up 5.21%. The oilfield services company reported third-quarter 2026 results on October 23 showing a sharp year-over-year improvement in operating income, aided by a smaller impairment charge than in the prior-year period and stronger drilling-related activity.
Halliburton’s corporate headquarters is in Houston, Texas, and the company operates globally across two segments: Completion and Production, which includes cementing, stimulation and completion tool services, and Drilling and Evaluation, which provides field and reservoir modeling, drilling, fluids and evaluation services.
Lower Impairments and Stronger Drilling Activity Lift Operating Income
Total revenue for the quarter was $5,703 million, up 1.8% from $5,600 million a year earlier, comprising services revenue of $4,092 million and product sales of $1,611 million. Operating income rose to $624 million from $356 million, primarily reflecting a decline in impairments and other charges to $107 million from $392 million in the prior-year quarter, which had been driven mainly by asset write-offs related to the company’s North America Land operations. General and administrative expense rose to $67 million from $58 million, and SAP S4 system upgrade expense was $42 million, down from $50 million.
Net income was $419 million, compared with $20 million a year earlier, and net income attributable to the company was $417 million, or $0.50 per diluted share, compared with $18 million, or $0.02 per share. For the first nine months of 2026, net income attributable to the company was $1,412 million, or $1.69 per diluted share, compared with $694 million, or $0.81 per share, in the comparable period of 2025.
Segment Results Diverge Between North America and International Markets
Completion and Production segment revenue decreased 4% in the third quarter of 2026 compared with the third quarter of 2025, which the company attributed primarily to decreased stimulation activity in North America and lower completion tool sales in the Middle East and Asia. Drilling and Evaluation segment revenue increased 10% over the same comparison, driven primarily by improved drilling-related services in North America and Europe.
Capital Allocation Strategy Targets Shareholder Returns
Halliburton has said its capital allocation strategy targets returning more than 50% of annual free cash flow to shareholders through dividends and share repurchases, while continuing to invest in technology and process improvements intended to enhance utilization of existing capital. The company has also said it continues to pursue growth in its international operations, including directional drilling, unconventional resources and well construction activity, while maintaining a disciplined approach to capital spending in North America.
