Corebridge Financial (NYSE:CRBG) shares closed about 0.1% lower on October 28, 2026, at $35.32, after touching a new 12-month intraday high earlier in the session. The small move came as Nippon Life Insurance Co., the company's largest strategic shareholder, continued adding to its stake through a string of recent purchases.

Consolidation Near Recent Highs

The biggest factor for Corebridge shareholders remains its pending all-stock combination with Equitable Holdings (NYSE:EQH), announced in March 2026. Under the terms, each Corebridge share will convert into one share of the combined company and each Equitable share into 1.55516 shares, with Corebridge shareholders expected to own about 51% of the result. Shareholders of both companies approved the deal in July 2026, and it remains subject to regulatory approval, with closing expected by year-end 2026.

A Major Shareholder Keeps Adding

Corebridge, the former life and retirement business of AIG, is one of the largest US providers of retirement solutions and insurance products, selling fixed, indexed, and variable annuities, life insurance, and group retirement plans. It reported more than $390 billion in assets under management and administration as of mid-2026.

The Pending Equitable Merger

The company's most recent quarter showed adjusted earnings of $1.12 per share, above consensus but down from $1.36 a year earlier, on revenue that came in below expectations.

A Stock Increasingly Priced Off a Pending Deal

Because the fixed exchange ratios tie Corebridge's value to Equitable's, the stock increasingly trades in relation to the pending merger rather than purely on its own quarterly results.
