Robinhood Markets (NASDAQ:HOOD) tumbled on Friday, October 30, 2026, moving with the crypto sector after a reported record-breaking hack at Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange, and a slide in bitcoin. The online brokerage, which offers crypto trading alongside stocks and options, had no company-specific news of its own.
Robinhood was one of several crypto-linked stocks to sink. Coinbase Global (NASDAQ:COIN) fell sharply, Strategy Inc. (NASDAQ:MSTR) dropped steeply and Circle Internet Group (NYSE:CRCL) also declined, according to market data. Crypto miners including Riot Platforms (NASDAQ:RIOT) and Hut 8 (NASDAQ:HUT) fell as well.
What happened at Binance
Binance disclosed a breach on Thursday evening and on Friday confirmed that about $6.3 billion had been stolen, which would make it the largest crypto heist on record. Blockchain analytics firms TRM Labs and Elliptic tied the attack to North Korea, according to market data. Binance blamed a compromised laptop belonging to a DevOps engineer, market reports said.
About $3 billion of the stolen funds has reportedly been frozen. Circle froze $800 million in its USDC Stablecoin in coordination with law enforcement, according to market data. Binance pledged to cover losses, and withdrawals are expected to resume by Sunday, according to market data.
"We are committed to covering all hacked losses through our company funds," Binance co-CEO Richard Teng said.
Bitcoin fell to about $77,000, down from about $86,000 earlier in the month, while ether traded around $2,237.
Not everyone sees a quick recovery
Some analysts warned the selling may not be over. "I suspect the negative price action still has some way to go," a digital-assets research head said, according to market data.
The episode also produced an unusual public exchange. Binance co-founder Changpeng Zhao told Elon Musk: "Elon, have a lot of respect for you, but bad time to troll. Please stop," according to market data.
For Robinhood, crypto activity has become an important source of trading revenue, which makes its shares sensitive to swings in digital-asset prices and sentiment. Friday's drop showed how quickly a shock at one exchange can spread across the sector.
A tough day across Wall Street
The crypto rout came on a day when the broader market was already under heavy pressure. The S&P 500 fell 140.32 points to 7,580.07, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 572.25 points to 51,770.31 and the Nasdaq Composite lost 747.73 points to 25,437.00, its worst day since June. The Russell 2000 slid 47.37 points to 2,811.84.
Intel (NASDAQ:INTC)'s weak outlook and cash-burn warning sparked a selloff in chips and AI stocks, and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN)'s negative trailing free Cash Flow of $42.4 billion added to worries about tech spending. Oil traded above $100 a barrel, and markets priced in a December rate increase from the Federal Reserve. Higher rates tend to weigh on speculative assets, including crypto.
Technology was the worst-performing sector, while energy, consumer staples, utilities and health care rose.
What to watch
The key near-term test is whether Binance resumes withdrawals by Sunday as planned, and whether more of the stolen funds are recovered. Any further slide in Bitcoin would likely keep pressure on Robinhood and other crypto-linked stocks.
Next week brings the midterm elections on November 3, ISM surveys and the October jobs report on Friday, November 6. Those will shape expectations for a December rate move, a key driver for risk Assets from tech stocks to tokens.
