ASML Shares: Why Did a Record Quarter Not Prevent a 6.93% Drop?
ASML Holding (NASDAQ:ASML) closed at $1,560.54 on Thursday, October 22, 2026, down 6.93% from $1,676.69, and Corgi ASML 2x Daily ETF (CBOE:ASMZ) fell 13.76% to $15.58 on the October 23 screen. Halving the fund's decline implies an ASML fall of roughly 6.88% (calculated). The stock traded about 0.7% higher on Friday.
The cause was the equipment group, not an ASML announcement, even though Lam also gave a preliminary view of 2027 wafer-fab equipment spending above $200 billion. Lam Research (NASDAQ:LRCX) fell 11.76% after an outlook that flagged supply constraints on near-term shipments, KLA (NASDAQ:KLAC) fell 9.55% and Applied Materials (NASDAQ:AMAT) fell 8.16%. A report on October 19 that ASML is developing hybrid-bonding equipment, a rival to Dutch packaging maker Besi's tools, added a further talking point. ASML had gained 2.81% on Wednesday.
ASML Third Quarter: What Do 11.7 Billion Euros of Sales and a 14.2 Billion Euro Guide Show?
ASML reported on October 14 net sales of about 11.7 billion euros, a gross margin of 57.5% and net income of 4.96 billion euros, shipping 113 new and 8 used lithography systems. Installed Base Management sales were about 3.3 billion euros. The stock still fell 3.94% on that day.
For the fourth quarter ASML guided net sales to 14.2 billion to 15.2 billion euros at a gross margin near 57%, and for 2026 to 44 billion to 45 billion euros. It said planned supply for 2027 and 2028 will not fully meet customer demand and plans a 30% capacity increase in 2027.
Market value was about $613.07 billion on Friday, with trailing revenue of $44.98 billion.
Corgi Fund Terms: What Does ASMZ Cost and How Large Is It?
ASMZ began trading on June 29, 2026, charges 0.45% a year and seeks 2x ASML's daily price movement using swaps. Assets were only about $311,000, so trading can be thinner than in larger funds.
Over the six sessions from October 15 to October 22, ASML fell 5.43% in total, from $1,650.00 on October 14, while compounding 2x daily moves gives about minus 11.15% before fees (calculated). The result is slightly worse than twice the stock's change because losses compound on a smaller base.
ASML Next Dates: What Follows the Equipment Selloff?
ASML's stock goes ex-dividend on October 27, with an interim dividend of 1.88 euros per share payable on November 4. Applied Materials reports on November 12, and any change in industry spending forecasts will matter for ASML's order outlook.
ASMZ resets daily and does not promise twice ASML's return over longer periods. This article is informational only.
