Seven-Year THAAD Shroud Agreement Adds Multi-Year Visibility

Karman Space & Defense (NYSE:KRMN) shares traded up 5.82% to $35.89 after the company entered a seven-year, $218 million agreement with Lockheed Martin (NYSE:LMT) to provide shrouds for the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense program. The agreement was signed on September 29, 2026.

The award is one of three long-term agreements Karman disclosed on its August 6 earnings call as being under negotiation. Karman said the commitment gives it greater visibility to invest in people, equipment and manufacturing capacity. Lockheed Martin is the prime contractor and systems integrator for THAAD.

Shrouds Protect Interceptor Components During Launch and Flight

The shrouds are protective aerodynamic structures that shield interceptor components from extreme forces during launch and flight and must separate cleanly at the right point in the mission. Karman said its automated manufacturing supports repeatable, high-quality production at scale.

Huntington Beach, California-based Karman designs and manufactures mission-critical systems for missile defense, hypersonics and space launch programs, including payload protection, aerodynamic interstage structures and propulsion systems. It went public in February 2025 and expanded into maritime defense through two acquisitions in January 2026.

A Record Quarter and Raised Outlook Meet a Premium Valuation

In its second quarter, Karman reported record revenue of $182.1 million, up 24.4% on an organic basis, with net income of $14.0 million and a backlog of about $1.3 billion. It raised its 2026 revenue outlook to $720 million to $735 million.

The stock has a market capitalization of about $4.76 billion, a forward price-to-earnings ratio of 42.10 and a 52-week range of $29.34 to $118.38. A Macquarie initiation at Outperform with a $65 target last week, along with raised outlooks from other defense contractors, has supported sentiment.

Two More Long-Term Agreements and the November 5 Report Are Next

Investors are watching for the two remaining long-term agreements management said were under negotiation, along with Karman's November 5 earnings report. Higher Treasury yields remain a macro overhang for the stock.
