Performance Food Group (NYSE:PFGC) shares are trading down 0.98% at $96.93, and the stock's 50-day simple moving average has moved below its 200-day, a pattern technical analysts call a death cross. The company has a market capitalization of $15.29 billion.
The signal is derived from past prices and does not reflect operating results. Performance Food Group distributes food and related products through its Foodservice, Convenience and Specialty segments, and it reported fiscal fourth-quarter results on August 12.
Sales Rise in All Three Segments While Full-Year Earnings Lag
Net sales for the quarter ended June 27 were $18.0 billion, up 6.4%. Foodservice sales were $9.8 billion, up 6.8%, Convenience sales were $6.8 billion, up 5.7%, and Specialty sales were $1.3 billion, up 6.6%.
Net income was $162.3 million, up 23.4%, and diluted earnings per share were $1.03, up 22.6%. Adjusted diluted earnings per share were $1.59, up 2.6%.
Fiscal 2026 net sales were $67.8 billion, up 7.2%, with Foodservice at $36.6 billion, up 8.7%, Convenience at $26.0 billion, up 5.9%, and Specialty at $5.1 billion, up 3.1%. Adjusted EBITDA was $1.93 billion, up 9.2%.
Net income was $359.3 million, up 5.6%, and diluted earnings per share were $2.29, up 5.0%. Adjusted diluted earnings per share were $4.55, up 1.6%, so adjusted earnings per share grew more slowly than adjusted EBITDA.
Free Cash Flow Passes $1 Billion
Free cash flow was $1.03 billion for the year, from operating cash flow of $1.41 billion less $384.1 million of capital expenditures. Long-term debt was $5.01 billion and cash was $92.4 million at June 27.
The release does not give a leverage ratio. The company repurchased fewer than 0.1 million shares in fiscal 2026 for $1.5 million, and $498.5 million remains under a $500 million program authorized in May 2025 that expires on May 27, 2029.
Fiscal 2027 Outlook Includes a 53rd Week
For the first quarter, the company expects net sales of about $17.9 billion to $18.1 billion and adjusted EBITDA of about $510 million to $530 million. For the full year, it expects net sales of about $72.5 billion to $73.0 billion and adjusted EBITDA of about $2.125 billion to $2.225 billion, including a 53rd week.
The midpoint of the full-year sales range is about 7% above fiscal 2026 net sales, though the extra week contributes to that growth. The release does not provide capital expenditure or earnings per share guidance, and the chief executive described the fiscal 2026 finish as strong.
Signal Versus Cash Generation
The death cross reflects past price action, while the reported figures show growth in every segment, free cash flow above $1 billion and fiscal 2027 guidance that includes an extra week. The next report will show whether first-quarter sales and adjusted EBITDA land within the guided ranges. This review is limited to reported results and company guidance and does not assess valuation.
