- Launches 8-liter CORE80 diesel engine and 150 kWh Future Battery Concept
- Introduces CO2 Calculator for real-time tracking of operational emissions
- Expands remanufacturing capacity to 2,500 engines per year at Linnavuori plant
At Agritechnica 2025 in Hanover, AGCO Power, a subsidiary of AGCO Corporation(NYSE:AGCO), showcased a new generation of sustainable powertrain technologies for agricultural and forestry equipment. Key innovations included the next-generation CORE diesel engine family, a Future Battery Concept with 150 kWh capacity, and a CO2 Calculator concept for real-time emissions measurement.
Juha Tervala, Vice President and Managing Director of AGCO Power, stated:
“We believe the future of agricultural energy lies in a smart combination of fuels and technologies. There is no single solution—rather; a wider spectrum of power sources is needed. That’s why we are committed to exploring a wide range of innovations, investing significantly in R&D and our Clean Energy Lab, and promoting collaboration across the industry.”
Future Battery Concept: Electrification in Agricultural Machinery
Making its world premiere, AGCO Power’s Future Battery Concept features NMC cell chemistry and offers 150 kWh of capacity. Developed in-house, the concept is under evaluation alongside other emerging technologies, including solid-state batteries.
According to Kari Aaltonen, Director of Engineering, battery-electric powertrains present growing opportunities for agricultural use.
“Today, the best way for a farmer to achieve emission-free operation is with a battery-electric driveline. Most regular farm work can, in the future, be completed with a tractor equipped with this battery. The challenge will be very long working days, but high-power DC charging will enable operators to resume work in around 40 minutes.”
Aaltonen noted that concept-based powertrains could enter production within five to seven years, offering lower operational and maintenance costs compared to traditional systems.
CORE80 Engine Powers Fendt 800 Vario Gen5
The 8-liter CORE80 engine was introduced as part of AGCO’s expanded CORE diesel engine range, now powering the new Fendt 800 Vario Gen5 tractor. The engine delivers 252 kW and 1680 Nm of torque, combining strong output with fuel efficiency.
Testing by the German Agricultural Society through its PowerMix Test 2.0 confirmed the efficiency of CORE engines in both fuel and AdBlue consumption. Additional models showcased included the CORE50 and CORE75, which power the Fendt 500, 600, and 700 Vario series. All units are produced at AGCO Power’s Linnavuori facility in Finland.
CO2 Calculator Concept Developed with Valtra
In partnership with Valtra, AGCO Power unveiled its CO2 Calculator, which integrates an engine-mounted fuel sensor with a cloud-based software platform. The system measures the type of fuel used and calculates the operational carbon footprint in real time, helping users record and visualize their emissions.
Jarno Ratia, Director of Product Management at AGCO Power, emphasized that accurate emissions data offer a measurable benefit for farmers’ sustainability reporting.
Bianca Lind, Managing Director of VERAVIS GmbH, noted that the solution supports compliance with EU Green Deal goals and enhances the accuracy of site-specific carbon calculations.
Expanding Remanufacturing Operations to Extend Engine Lifecycles
AGCO Power announced an increase in remanufacturing capacity at its Linnavuori facility from 1,000 to 2,500 engines annually. The initiative supports the company’s Farmer First strategy by providing cost-efficient, sustainable replacement engines that minimize downtime and resource use.
According to Jussi Rinne, Director of Quality and Aftermarket, remanufactured engines enable reuse of up to 80% of the engine’s mass, significantly lowering total ownership costs and environmental impact.
