Lulu's Fashion Lounge Holdings, Inc. (NASDAQ:LVLU) is in the spotlight because its second-quarter 2026 results showed the online women's apparel retailer reaching positive adjusted EBITDA while sales continued to shrink. For the quarter ended 28 June 2026, reported on 12 August 2026, net revenue fell 17% to US$67.8 million, yet gross margin widened and the net loss halved, as management cut inventory and focused on more productive products.
The business
Lulu's sells dresses, clothing, footwear and accessories to women through its website and mobile app. The company went public in November 2021 and, at the latest count in that data, had 529 employees. Its fiscal year ends in early January, with fiscal 2026 due to close on 3 January 2027, per the results release.
What the quarter showed
Net revenue was US$67.8 million compared with US$81.5 million a year earlier. Active customers fell 13% to 2.2 million from 2.5 million, and orders placed fell 17%, while average order value edged up 1% to US$147 from US$145. Gross margin rose 330 basis points to 48.6% from 45.3%. Net loss narrowed to US$1.5 million from US$3.0 million, and adjusted EBITDA, a non-GAAP measure, improved to US$1.0 million from US$0.5 million.
Management tied the margin gain to its handling of stock. Chief executive Crystal Landsem said gross margin expanded 330 basis points to 48.6% and pointed to disciplined inventory management. The release describes an inventory reset in casual apparel and footwear, a focus on product productivity and reorder rates, and wholesale revenue that nearly doubled year on year. Inventory ended the quarter at US$28.6 million, 23% lower than the US$37.3 million of a year earlier.
Cash, Debt and outlook
At quarter end Lulu's held US$4.1 million of cash and equivalents against US$10.1 million drawn on its asset-based revolving Credit Facility with White Oak Commercial Finance, LLC, leaving net debt of US$5.9 million. Operating Cash Flow for the 26 weeks was US$7.5 million and free cash flow was US$0.1 million. Chief financial officer Heidi Crane highlighted positive adjusted EBITDA of US$1.0 million and positive year-to-date operating cash flow.
For fiscal 2026 the company said it expects adjusted EBITDA to turn positive, against a loss of US$1.2 million in 2025, and net revenue growth to improve from the 11% decline recorded in 2025. Capital Expenditure is projected at US$2.0 million to US$2.5 million. The release gave no third-quarter guidance.
Shares and strategic review
The company is valued at US$33.14 million on 2.87 million shares outstanding, with a 52-week range of US$4.26 to US$32.32 and no dividend. Lulu's announced a review of strategic alternatives in July 2026.
Margin Gains Against a Shrinking Customer Base
The central risk is scale. Revenue has fallen for several periods, trailing twelve-month revenue is US$261.95 million, down 10.4%, and customer numbers are still declining. Margin gains from clearing stock may not offset lower volumes for long, and the company has modest cash alongside its revolver. Leaner inventory supports margin, but cutting too deeply could limit the range of styles available to customers, a trade-off management has not quantified. A very small Market Value also makes the shares prone to large price moves.
Upcoming items include the third-quarter 2026 results, where investors can check whether revenue declines moderate as management expects for the full year, and any update on the strategic alternatives review.
