Coherent Corp. (NYSE: COHR) has announced the launch of its new ACE FL series thulium fiber laser (TFL), engineered for therapeutic medical applications such as lithotripsy (kidney stone treatment) and benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) procedures. The laser system is designed for integration into surgical tools used in outpatient and minimally invasive settings.
The ACE FL operates at the two-micron wavelength and is intended to outperform legacy holmium:YAG systems through enhanced precision, better thermal management, and energy efficiency. The platform supports original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) by offering a compact design and easier integration into next-generation medical devices.
Coherent stated that the shift toward minimally invasive surgical methods is increasing demand for fiber laser systems that can offer more precise cutting and better procedural efficiency. The ACE FL platform supports BPH enucleation with improved control and reliability while reducing the power requirements typically seen in traditional systems.
The ACE FL also benefits from Coherent’s vertically integrated production model and proprietary fiber technologies. These components enable scalable and repeatable manufacturing, which is critical for OEM partners developing new surgical solutions. The product line also includes disposable fiber assemblies, enhancing clinical workflow and compatibility with various surgical platforms.
Martin Seifert, Vice President of Coherent’s High-Power Fiber Laser Business Unit, noted that the ACE FL system is aligned with current medical trends favoring faster patient recovery times and increased demand for outpatient procedures. The laser’s performance characteristics aim to support medical device manufacturers in developing safer and more efficient tools for urological applications.
Coherent plans to present the ACE FL platform at the upcoming LASER World of Photonics event in Munich in 2025, a global industry gathering for advancements in laser technologies.
With this launch, Coherent expands its product offerings into the growing medical laser market, where precision, efficiency, and integration flexibility are key competitive factors for equipment providers and healthcare institutions.
