Snap Inc. (NYSE:SNAP) traded higher on Tuesday after the company unveiled SPECS, its new see-through augmented reality glasses aimed at expanding its consumer hardware strategy.
The stock rose 1.84% to $5.82 during the regular session, after closing the previous session at $5.71. Shares opened at $5.72 and moved within a daily range of $5.34 to $5.94.
Trading volume stood near 38.23 million shares. The stock’s 52-week range was listed between $3.81 and $10.41, while market capitalisation stood near $9.84 billion.
The move followed Snap’s announcement that SPECS are available for pre-order at $2,195. The company is taking a $200 refundable deposit and expects shipments to begin this fall in the United States, United Kingdom and France.
The launch gives Snap a broader hardware focus beyond its messaging and advertising platform. The company described SPECS as a wearable computer built into augmented reality glasses, with AI assistance, entertainment, work tools and shared experiences.
Snap said the product reflects more than a decade of investment across augmented reality software, displays, optics, developer tools, computer vision and operating system development. The company said it has filed more than 7,000 patents linked to its technology work.
The price point places SPECS in the premium consumer electronics category. The device is positioned above basic AI glasses and below larger mixed-reality headsets in terms of form factor and use case.
SPECS include a 51-degree field of view, 16 million colors and two Snapdragon processors. The glasses also support hand tracking, Bluetooth notifications, developer-built Lenses and AI-assisted experiences.
Snap said the product offers up to 4 hours of mixed-use battery life. The included charging case provides four additional charges, taking total mixed-use availability to up to 20 hours.
The stock reaction reflected investor focus on whether SPECS can extend Snap’s augmented reality business and create fresh interest around its hardware roadmap.
