Faraday Future Intelligent Electric Inc. [NASDAQ: FFAI] has made significant strides in electric vehicle powertrain innovation with the filing of three patent applications through its newly established subsidiary, Future AIHER. Founded in March 2025, Future AIHER is focused on developing AI-driven hybrid and range-extender systems for Extended Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs). These systems aim to enhance energy optimization, performance, and system integration.
The patent applications are central to Future AIHER's plan to establish leadership in intelligent powertrain technology. The first application involves using deep reinforcement learning (DRL) to optimize dynamic energy management in hybrid systems. This technology could enable real-time, personalized energy management tailored to individual driving styles and route conditions.
The remaining two patents focus on simplifying the structure of plug-in hybrid systems. By decoupling key components such as the engine, generator, and driving wheels, these innovations promise to improve modularity and functionality, delivering efficient performance with a streamlined configuration.
Looking ahead, Future AIHER plans to execute a two-phase strategic approach. In the near term, the company will integrate third-party range extender technology into its upcoming Faraday X (FX) vehicles, facilitating a faster market entry. Over the longer term, Future AIHER intends to develop its own AI-powered range extender solutions, potentially extending its innovations to other mobility sectors, including electric vertical takeoff and landing (EVTOL) aircraft, commercial trucking, and electric boats.
This move reflects Faraday Future's continued commitment to advancing intelligent mobility, bringing high-performance, AI-enhanced powertrains not only to its own vehicles but also to other transportation industries.
