An Oversold Bounce Follows a Fresh 52-Week Low and Target Cuts
Sunrun (NASDAQ:RUN) shares traded up 9.87% to $7.57 after sliding to a fresh 52-week low of $6.78 earlier in the session. The rebound follows a string of analyst price target cuts ahead of the company's November 4 third-quarter report.
JPMorgan trimmed its target to $12 from $14 while keeping an Overweight rating, citing possible near-term order slowing from Section 232 tariff uncertainty. Morgan Stanley, Citi and Barclays have also cut targets. No company-specific news accompanied the move, which looks like a bounce from oversold levels.
Residential Solar Leader Faces Financing Cost Pressure
San Francisco-based Sunrun is the largest U.S. residential solar and battery storage provider, serving more than one million customers. It pioneered the solar-as-a-service subscription model in 2007, which gives homeowners clean energy with little or no upfront cost.
Sunrun designs, installs, finances, owns and maintains home solar-plus-storage systems and operates one of the nation's largest home-based virtual power plants. Its results depend heavily on tax-credit monetization, financing costs, utility rates and state policy, and residential solar remains under pressure from high financing costs, with the 10-year Treasury yield near 5.1%.
A Single-Digit Earnings Multiple Contrasts With a Steep Share Price Decline
Sunrun has a market capitalization of about $1.81 billion, a trailing price-to-earnings ratio of 5.11 and a forward ratio of 11.58, with earnings per share of $1.48. The 52-week range runs from $6.78 to $21.95, so the stock trades near the bottom of that range and far below its high.
Analyst consensus is Hold.
Subscriber Additions and Cash Generation Headline the November 4 Report
Investors are watching whether the company's expanded sales force lifts subscriber additions and cash generation when it reports on November 4. Tariff policy and financing costs remain the main swing factors for the outlook.
