AbbVie Inc. (NYSE: ABBV) is a global biopharmaceutical company. It focuses on research and development. The company also manufactures, markets, and sells medicines and therapies.
In the first quarter of the financial year 2025 (Q1FY25), AbbVie reported net sales of USD 13,343 million, marking an 8.4% year-over-year increase compared to USD 12,310 million in Q1FY24. This growth was primarily driven by better performance in its immunology and neuroscience portfolios, which saw increases of 16.6% and 16.1%, respectively.
However, despite the revenue growth, net income declined by 6.3% YoY to USD 1,286 million, largely due to higher total operating costs and other expenses that weighed on profitability.
Operating cash flow also saw a significant drop of 59.5% YoY to USD 1,635 million from USD 4,040 million. This was mainly attributed to lower net income and unfavourable changes in net working capital. As a result, the company’s cash and cash equivalents at the end of Q1FY25 stood at USD 5,175 million, down 6.3% from USD 5,524 million in Q1FY24. This decline reflects cash outflows from both investing and financing activities, though these were partially offset by inflows from operating activities.
