Zeta Global (NYSE:ZETA) moved lower on Friday, October 30, 2026, as software stocks were pulled down in a sweeping selloff tied to worries about artificial-intelligence spending. No company-specific news was found for the marketing-technology company. A market roundup grouped Zeta with Commerce, the E-commerce software provider formerly known as BigCommerce, among software names that traded down with the sector.
Zeta, a Russell 2000 member based in New York, sells a cloud-based marketing platform that uses data and AI tools to help businesses find, target and keep customers across email, social media, connected TV and other channels. That combination of software and AI made it part of the group investors were selling on Friday.
Where the selling came from
The pressure built after a string of results from the largest technology companies. Intel (NASDAQ:INTC) issued a fourth-quarter outlook that fell well short of forecasts and warned of cash burn this year, citing a weak PC market, Manufacturing bottlenecks and a factory accident in Israel. Its shares posted what market reports called the steepest one-day drop on record.
Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN)'s report deepened the concern. Its trailing 12-month free Cash Flow was negative $42.4 billion, and the company kept 2026 Capital spending at about $220 billion while signaling more next year. On Thursday, Alphabet (NASDAQ:GOOGL) had suffered its worst day ever after reporting negative free cash flow and heavier spending.
The result was a broad reassessment of companies tied to the AI trade. "The love-hate relationship with tech and AI continues, and investors are becoming more discerning following earnings," a senior market strategist said. A trading specialist said: "A lot of them kind of got ahead of themselves. It's all Earnings based and right now, they're not producing,"
A broad software slide
Zeta had plenty of company. AppLovin (NASDAQ:APP), 8x8 (NASDAQ:EGHT), Elastic, Shopify (NASDAQ:SHOP) and F5 (NASDAQ:FFIV) all fell, according to market data, as did Cloudflare (NYSE:NET), Fastly (NYSE:FSLY), JFrog (NASDAQ:FROG), Okta (NASDAQ:OKTA), MongoDB (NASDAQ:MDB) and Snowflake (NYSE:SNOW). In most cases the reports found no company-specific news; the stocks moved with the sector. Twilio (NYSE:TWLO) and Reddit (NYSE:RDDT), by contrast, fell on their own results.
The broader market had its worst day since June. The S&P 500 dropped 140.32 points to 7,580.07, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 572.25 points to 51,770.31 and the Nasdaq Composite slid 747.73 points to 25,437.00. The Russell 2000 lost 47.37 points to 2,811.84, though small caps still finished the week higher. Technology was the worst-performing sector, while energy, consumer staples, utilities and health care rose as investors rotated toward defensive areas.
Macro forces added to the strain. Oil traded above $100 a barrel amid tensions involving Iran, and the Federal Reserve held rates steady this week while two policymakers dissented in favor of a hike. On Friday, St. Louis Fed President Alberto Musalem said, "I judge that additional firming of Monetary Policy will be necessary, and soon." Higher rates tend to weigh on the valuations of growth-oriented software companies.
What to watch
For Zeta, the near-term question is whether the stock keeps trading with the sector or finds its own footing. With no company-specific news behind Friday's decline, its direction may continue to depend on how investors view software and AI more broadly.
The calendar is busy. Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) and Palantir (NASDAQ:PLTR) report on Monday, November 2, and the midterm elections follow on Tuesday, November 3. The October jobs report is due Friday, November 6. Investors will also watch for more Fed commentary ahead of the December meeting, where markets expect a rate hike, and for signs of whether the rotation out of technology continues.
