Shares of Unity Software (NYSE:U) dropped on Friday, October 30, 2026, falling alongside Roblox (NYSE:RBLX) as gaming stocks slid, according to market data. No Unity-specific news was found to explain the decline; the stock moved with the group after Roblox's third-quarter report disappointed investors.

Unity, based in San Francisco, makes a widely used engine and tools for building video games and interactive 3D content, along with Advertising software that helps developers make money from their games. Its fortunes are tied to the health of the gaming industry, so a stumble at a major platform such as Roblox can weigh on its shares.

Roblox's disappointment

Roblox tumbled after reporting that daily active users fell from a year earlier to 138 million, missing the 145.8 million analysts expected, according to market data. Third-quarter bookings of $1.70 billion beat the $1.62 billion estimate, and the loss of $0.32 a share was narrower than expected.

But the outlook disappointed. Roblox forecast fourth-quarter bookings of $1.89 billion to $2.0 billion, below the $2.02 billion consensus, and guided fourth-quarter adjusted EBITDA to between negative $70 million and negative $10 million.

Roblox chief financial officer Naveen Chopra said: "We don't assume short-term improvement in monetization,". He also cited "a modest headwind from the release of GTA in the quarter." Roth MKM cut its price target on Roblox to $54 from $60, and UBS (NYSE:UBS) and StoneX (NASDAQ:SNEX) also lowered targets.

The GTA VI factor

Take-Two (NASDAQ:TTWO) Interactive slipped slightly on Friday. The publisher reaffirmed its full-year net bookings guidance of $8.0 billion to $8.2 billion, and Grand Theft Auto VI is set to launch on Nov. 19. Chopra had flagged the release as a headwind for Roblox in the quarter.

Elsewhere in consumer internet, Reddit (NYSE:RDDT) plunged after warning that daily users could fall as Google's AI search features reduce referrals, and Pinterest (NYSE:PINS) extended losses after missing estimates.

Tech-led selloff

The gaming selloff came during one of the worst days of the year for technology. The Nasdaq Composite fell 747.73 points to 25,437.00, its worst day since June, after Intel (NASDAQ:INTC)'s weak outlook and cash-burn warning set off a global chip rout and Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN)'s results raised fresh questions about AI spending. The S&P 500 lost 140.32 points to 7,580.07, the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropped 572.25 points to 51,770.31 and the Russell 2000 fell 47.37 points to 2,811.84.

Software stocks fell broadly, and a software exchange-traded fund closed lower. Investors rotated into energy, consumer staples, utilities and health care.

A senior market strategist said: "The love-hate relationship with tech and AI continues, and investors are becoming more discerning following earnings." The Federal Reserve left its benchmark rate range unchanged earlier in the week, but two officials dissented in favor of a hike, and CME FedWatch data showed traders treating a December increase as likely.

What to watch

Investors will watch how gaming engagement holds up as GTA VI launches on Nov. 19, and whether Roblox's weaker user trends prove specific to that platform or spread to the wider industry. Any Unity-specific update would be the first fresh catalyst for the stock since Friday's decline.

On the broader calendar, the midterm elections on Tuesday, Nov. 3, and the October jobs report on Friday, Nov. 6, will shape expectations for the Fed's December decision and for consumer spending into the holidays.
